Hi guys,
I'm fairly new to the car buying market. I'm in the market for a BMW X6, I'm not the most knowledgeable about getting the best deals.
My budget is roughly 18-20k (cash not finance). I've found a few 2014 models with decent mileage (40-60k). I was just wondering if anyone could offer anymore advice while I'm searching.

That budget should get you a decent one. I was looking a while ago for one (covid then hit!). A lot of people don't like the look of them but I think they look great.
The 30d/40d variants should be pretty reliable engine-wise. The tyres are huge so bear this in mind if they need changing as can become costly.
I think in 2014 the facelift was launched so try and go for one of these as pre-facelift have the really old style dash and i-drive from 2006-2008.

I have an E70 40d X5. I think the mechanicals of the E70 and the E71 are quite similar. If this is the case then I think two things to be aware of are a rattling timing chain and a problem with the front driveshaft (propshaft). On the X5, the driveshaft was a recall but very important as there are a lot of horror stories of this shaft failing and taking out the engine and / or gearbox.
The age wouldn't be an issue for me I'd rather an older lower mileage (to keep me away from the borkage that will eventually come) example rather than chase a higher mileage facelift model.
One thing I will say is ignore the long service intervals & shorten the oil changes to every 10k using non long life oil this will end up costing you similar money but your engine will be better for it (Castrol Edge seems to be the favoured one) also make sure the gearbox fluid has been changed.
