How difficult a job is this on the above car from axle stands, its a 2012 model. I have changed clutches and gearboxes in the past on various cars and I am more than capable of doing this in theory but what is putting me off is the shear weight of the gearbox, I've got a spare gearbox in my shed and 2 of us can only just lift it to move it.

I did think of removing the middle diff whilst the box is still in situ, I removed it from the spare gearbox to see how heavy it is but it made naff all difference really. Another thing, why does the clutch assembly have to come out with the gear box, can't you remove the near side driveshaft and leave the clutch bolted to the flywheel like any other car, I appreciate the oil will drain out but it could do with new oil anyway.

Like I say, I'm fine with all the other technical details like propshaft removal and front drive shafts etc and I've got all the necessary tools to do it like triple square drives etc. Its just the weight of the box and trying to line it up going back on, oh and getting the exhaust bolts out without shearing them. The clutch is actually ok at the minute but I know there's not a lot of life left in it and I'm hesitant to drive the car hard at all in case I finish it off.

Yes I've seen similar although I was contemplating buying the cradle type that fit on a standard trolley jack but for £100 or so that looks a lot better option. I would imagine a clutch change at a garage would be £1000+ for my car.

Depends how much a clutch costs and what the garage charge.
