Is it just a TVR thing, or do other cars aforementioned objects warm up to such extents that they are literally untouchable ?

I found myself having to drive with a wet-wipe, or three, in the palm of my hand.

Tell me about it - I spent the last two days driving back from Le Mans with my windscreen-cleaning rag over the gear lever!

No its not, you couldn't touch the gear stick in a noble we had with and I one melted a pair of shoes to the transmission tunnel in an E-type.

Mine got really hot too. I've realised that metal gearknobs are a bad idea.
