Hey gents,

Tomorrow I'm going to see a used Corolla Verso (2002) 1.8 VVT-i T, automatic. After a little quick search, I've realized these cars have 1zz-FE engines. Are these not reliable, as some suggests pre-2005 models have some design-flaws? Any owner-experience here so far? I'm going to treat this car as a run-around, second car to do some boring trips.

Cheers

I’d say if it’s got to 18 years, it must be pretty reliable.

It may be an oil burner but fine if you keep topping up.

I owned a late 2005 Corolla and remember reading about the issue. I can't remember exactly but it was a while ago. I'm not sure whether the issue was actually rectified as a recall? Plus, if it's now 18 years old and still going fine it can't be that bad.

How would I sum up my 3.5 years with a Corolla as a daily driver? Pretty boring but turn-key reliability. 3.5 years, not a single fault. Literally, not one. routine servicing only. Great cars if you want something cheap to run around in.

I used to process warranty claims for Toyota in the 90s. Or rather, I didn't. We didn't do one claim in 5 years on the Corolla.
