Recently posted asking about a do-it-all daily vs a toy and daily combo. The consensus from petrolheads was for a car to suit each occasion, so I've done a complete U-turn from looking at lightly-used M3s and Audi RS4s to Renault Twingos and VW Ups..!!

My wife has the family wagon - X3 m40d, so no need for kids/luggage space.

I am looking for two cars ultimately, but will hold off until next year for the fun part. For now, I am after a small, fun car, predominantly for the 15 mile each way commute to the station, as and when offices re-open, and short trips to the gym, shops etc.

Doesn't need to be desperately practical, but I would like reasonable economy (30mpg minimum). Upper limit of £5k, although bonus points if I can save some from this budget and put it towards the toy!

Below is the leading contender from weeks of research - any alternative cars you care to venture before I pull the trigger this weekend?
