The country band Lady Antebellum realised that in these recent times it's a bad idea to have a name linked to slavery and plantations, so they change their name to Lady A. Problem, Lady A is blues singer Anita White who has used Lady A as a stage name for 20 years. It just "means" pre 'any' war. How it's used is another matter...

When used in an American context it refers to the Confederate states before the US civil war. Hopefully you know the main cause of that.
