Audi TT MK1. Cost for 2nd key?
Discussion
Hi all. Looking at buying a MK1 TT 3.2 as a cheap run around until I find my ideal car. Only problem is it only comes with 1 key. It’s cheap enough that I don’t mind sourcing a 2nd key myself, but not sure of the most cost effective way of doing this.
Wondered if anyone has been in this predicament and explored the options? Anyone know what the the costs is of doing it via Audi vs DIY? Is it possible DIY?
Read conflicting things that you can get a replacement fob, going to a locksmith to cut a duplicate key and then programme yourself via a strange combination of doing things with the programmed and unprogrammed key.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who has needed to get a second key on a MK1 TT. Any thoughts appreciated.

A key new is the best part of 200 quid and half an hour's labour to code.
You could do worse than to call some local automotive key people (plenty of mobile guys around) and ask if they can quote for the same/alternative.
You can resynchronise a key after a flat battery but you can't add a new one to the car.
