I'm looking to pick one of these up soon.

Anything I need to look out for or be aware of?

There seems to be a large amount coming out of Japan for some reason. Maybe smaller wrists.

What's going on with the rotor etching on this one?

I'm also looking for a brown leather strap akin to a FOIS, as I like the look.

Something like this might work?

Any tips or pointers appreciated. Similarly if someone is looking to offload one, send me a message.

I have a reduced and love it.. Perfect size for those of us who don't have enormous wrists.

I changed the bracelet on mine as the clasp wasn't great and would regularly pop open. It's now on a black leather strap with white stitching which works really well. Got it from Watch Gecko if I recall.

I believe servicing costs are a bot more on the reduced for some reason.

Mine has had one service after it went in water accidentally so it needed a service and some replacement parts. That was a good few years ago now. I think it was around £250.

The movement on the reduced is not really an Omega product - It's a time-only ETA 2892-A2 base fitted with a Dubois Dépraz 2020 chronograph module. Nothing particularly wrong with that and I don't think they are troublesome.

I personally don't like the way the chrono pushers are higher than the winding crown. It's because the chrono module is piggy backed onto the the main movement.

Sapphire rather Hesalite crystal is more practical, but not as "warm" visually.

As for the Australian watch - that engraving on the rotor looks wrong - I'd walk away.

Loads of strap options - I'm a big fan of Hirsch in terms of their quality at the price point.

I bought the later 3220.50, which is a 40mm version.

Really nice watch, but I'm 48 now and my eyes are not good enough to appreciate it. So move it on.

I put it on a leather strap that was 20mm and it was fine.
It was £15 off Amazon.

This was the thread...

Hi Andy, excuse the slight thread hijack. You seem to know a lot about this watch. I'm looking to pick up a Dark Side of the Moon but want to put it on a black metal strap for an all-black look. Can you point me in the right direction?

I know a little bit about Speedmasters. I had a reduced once and have had several other varieties.

As for the DSOTM and sticking it on a black bracelet- I don’t think Omega make a PVD Speedie bracelet, so you’d either need to buy a regular stainless steel Speedie bracelet and get it PVD’d which won’t be cheap, or get an aftermarket strap. A quick Google throws up a PVD sharks mesh and whilst Omega didn’t sell the Speedie with a sharks mesh, you see plenty of Seamasters on mesh.

I've had a speedy reduced for the last couple of years, I imported mine from Japan, as you've noticed they're popular over there.

Mine is the later 3539 but the movement is the same, just a few other improvements. If you're looking to import just do your research on the seller and bear in mind that the photos are typically taken very close up so any blemishes can often look worse in the photos. Also remember to factor in the import charges as that can make a dent on any potential savings you may make.

Mine runs a bit fast, despite a service so it is what it is. I also had an issue where the pushers fell out hehe but I think that was a result of the service and them messing it up, they fixed it for free. Apart from that its been a great little addition to my collection and they seem to be going up in value at the moment. The days of the sub £800 reduced's seems long gone. I think i paid around £1100 at the time.
