My daughter is considering purchase of an Audi A3 1.4tfsi from year 2017 to 2018 budget 16k.
She has asked me for advise, unfortunately I not able to offer much of use although I know the early 1.4tsi was a dog. My question is have the later engine re-designs resolves the problems or is it still best to avoid?
Appreciate comments and advise.

I have a July 2018 Seat Leon 1.4TSi (150). I'm impressed. It's a really good engine - gets better reviews than the 1.5TSi that replaced it.

Thanks, yes I also read that the 1.5tsi was problematic on smooth pullaways. Just wondering if the VW group resolved those timing chain problems, notwithstanding you are pleased with the engine of course,

The 1.4TSi engine we are discussing has a cambelt NOT a chain.

My wife leased an A3 with the 1.4 act 150 engine. We liked it so much, when the lease ended we bought a Seat Leon FR with the same engine.

Great little motors and no issues in the nearly 6 years we've been running them.

As glosphil suggests then for a 1.4 over the 1.5 engine, thanks for comments.

I have done the same research and just bought an A3 1.4 tfsi 2017 model. Appears that its the sweet spot being face lift but 1.4 and low road tax. I avoided the 1.5. I also went manual to avoid the DQ200 dry clutch,s although I get the impression this is less of an issue these days but didnt want any grief. The later 1.4 are a cambelt engine and a well regarded solid old thing it seems.
