Hi,
996.1 C4, please suggest options to upgrade from PCM to Alpine/Kenwood or other.

Better to keep PCM kit or sell?

Thanks

Whip it out and replace with double din. Kenwood are good value, Alpine are better sounding (but if you are running standard speakers/amp that's not going to be a deciding factor).

No!!! What are you thinking?!
Get the new updated bespoke Double din version from Porsche themselves, that was released last month. Brings CarPlay to the 996 and is styled to look original to the car.

And is 4 times the price of a better-specced unit without a Porsche badge. But each to their own.

The spec is on those links I shared.
There is a video @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZxAmb4CanE and look at 2mins 26.
Looks perfect for the 996 as the buttons and everything about it matches.

To the previous comment, there is a reason it is 4 times more money, because it is 4 times better suited to the car, and you'd be able to sell it with a premium for having it (if you ever came to sell it).

get the Porsche one or don't bother at all. There really is no half way measure.

Take a good look at it....
Now take a good look at the other head units you could fit....

....exactly my point.

You're entitled to your opinion of course. But that's all it is - an opinion. The fact remains that there are better specced alternatives for much, much less money that look equally well integrated (that's another opinion, by the way)

And if you think that spending £1500 on a £300 stereo will somehow add equivalent value to your car I would suggest you are somewhat mistaken; at the 996 level of the market, originality is worth buttons, particularly for something like the sound system.

Continental for me. Sounds great and connects well with my phone for Bluetooth radio and Spotify. Plus the phone works without an external mike. About £150 with an adapter and looks like it is meant to be there!

Where did you get that from? Looks perfect for my requirements and not too expensive?!

The double Din Porsche classic one that's been released does look the best in the dash but my god is it over priced for what it is. It doesn't even include some of the basic functionality of the sty PCM1 unit. Basic functions you get on a £100 amazon unit like wireless CarPlay aren't included either.
