Dipstick tube Question
Discussion
Any one know if all the roverv8 engines are the same length? when I rebuilt the engine on mine this somehow was lost so I brought one from a rrover dealer, handy shop down road.
Thinking that if it was longer I could be putting too much oil in the engine........
Just a thought to my excessive oil consumption = le mans and back I used 2.5 liters of oil :yikes:.
BTW only smokes when I boot it  I booted It all the way, well nearly......
The exhaust valve seals were not put in when the heads were done and also as time was short valve guides were not changed to the modern ones to fit propper valve seals, any idea??????
Thanks in advance......

If the Rover dipstick you bought is longer, then you will be showing an overfull reading as the stick will be immersed in the sump to a greater degree.
2.5L of oil is not excessive for a TVR V8, particularly if it's a 5L.

Its a modified 4.3 big valve, Although my mates 4.3 BV did not use a drop and he was caning it the same, recon its mi valve seals as their is non on the sxhaust side, only puffs out on gear change full throttel, Also I need a accurat measurment of the dipstick holder tube from the block to the top of the tube just past the rubber seal with dipstick removed, Not the length of the dipstick Anyone???

How about draining all the oil, then re-filling with the exact quantity stated in the manual.
my book say's 5 litres for the griff 500.
Then check where it comes to on the stick.
I always find it takes 6.5 litres of oil(inc filter)in any Griff/Chim V8.
I also know someone with a 4.3 big valve and it leaves more oil on my workshop floor than it uses.
