Inspired by the chap in the AM section who took three iterations to end up with is DBS.

I wonder what makes people (including myself) follow that pattern, when it comes "stuff", cars, watches, whatever.

I looked at the psychology of "buyer's remorse", but that seems to be something else.

Any ideas?

I think for the YouTubers, the obvious reason is keeping current, so their audience is entertained (add in churn to build anticipation of said car), then the modification and eventual sale before something new appears.

Men are very visual, so seeing any desireable item, wanting to buy it, trying to get the money together to buy it / purchasing the item then novelty disappearing is very normal. For me the last item was a "6WB dashboard" for my X5, (virtual cockpit) having seen how great they are in the M50D. Having searched every breakers yard, Facebook group, spolen to dealers, contemplation of changing car for one with said dashboard and dealing with Negative Equity, I eventually got the desired item, but 3 weeks in, the novelty wearing off.

I'm sure there's psychological reasons of perhaps validating one's self or efforts to bolster one's self worth or fit in with a particular social group.

I used to do this alot with cars, but it's too time consuming and costly... rolleyes

Maybe I wasnt precise - selling something, then buy the same item again, like our of "seller's remore", because it wasnt THAT bad, because the item it replaced was even worse, because of nostalgia.
