I’ve got a patch on my black seat Leon bonnet about the size of a 10pence coin, the patch is where I’ve previously sanded through the clear coat attempting to fix a chip repair job done by the previous owner, if I were to wet sand it down Further and use a Chipex repair kit would this get a fairly good result, how much would I need to sand it down and does it require a clear lacquer on top of it? Does the kit come with it?

I bought chipex for my wife's black car, but found it trickier to use then I'd thought! Prob improved the deep scratch, but it was a still plenty noticeable.

I'd speak to a chips away type mobile unit for a fix, over a chipex type repair.

Black bonnet will require a complete panel respray.
Bodyshop territory, not a man-in-a-van on your drive.

Yeah so I’ve spoke to people and everyone is saying it would need a full bonnet re-spray, however I’m comparing 250/300 for a full respray to a a 40 quid kit with not so perfect results, wondering if I’d get half decent results with the Chipex kit and save going for the full respray when I’m likely to get more chips in the long run?

Second hand panel is your most cost effective solution.

as a bodyshop owner here an invisible local repair on a black horizontal panel requires a lot skill, but more importantly not a recommended procedure.

I would advise a full bonnet paint

But hey for £40 and a bit of your time give it go, if your not happy you will just have to go with plan B.

That was my thinking, I emailed Chipex to be sure but they said it wouldn’t work, think I’ll have to either live with it or pay for the bonnet respray.

I've used Chipex a few times with good results on smaller areas that what you are working with. One tip is not to press that hard when using the fluid to blend - It takes more off than you think. Ideally you need a lip to blend it, like a deep chip and the small block and fluid with blend to the same level. I found the smearing technique works well when you don't have that 'lip', using a few layers. Worse case you can use it on the stone chips - it's great for road rash.
