New Vantage or keep DB9? Any advice?
Discussion
I recently went to look at a 2020 Vantage. I'm getting quite excited at the prospect of a new car, but I am worried that I might miss the specialness of my 2006 DB9 Volante (which I will need to sell to).
My DB9 is in immaculate condition and it only has about 22,000 miles from new. The problem is that I am not using it much as it is feels too special and immaculate. I had the same issue with a Ferrari 612 which I sold a couple of years ago. I would probably put about 10,000 miles a year on the new car.
I would love to hear from owners on here who have been in a similar predicament. Has the change being enjoyable, or does the new Vantage feel less special?

Be prepared for a number of negative views of new Vantage. In general, they don't like 'em on this forum, irrespective of whether they have bothered to actually drive one or not.My DB9 is in immaculate condition and it only has about 22,000 miles from new. I have owned a DB9GT, which was glorious, and I have only driven a new gen Vantage for 30 mins or so, which was sublime. The two are like chalk and cheese, and completely different in character. Try one out and see what you think.
Have to say I personally don’t like the look of the new Vantage. The DB11 is lovey but the Vantage looks like what we used to refer to as Jap Crap; lights way too small and squinty, very plasticky. From some angles it could be a the love child of a Mazda and a Jag not an AM. The design just isn’t cohesive and I believe it’s definitely just one reason that AM are struggling at the moment to sell new cars whilst it’s competitors are still shifting cars.
Having said all of that I would like to say that I am about to press the button on a Rapide S; BUT I prefer the look of the Rapide (I don’t particularly like the huge single grille at the front or the ducktail spoiler on the Rapide S). Thing is though I want a newer car so it has to be an S - plus they drive better.
It’s about the whole package and you have to choose what you want regardless of what others think. Choose to stick or twist for whatever YOU want. Oh and enjoy!

Perhaps the arithmetic is irrelevant, but as someone who has always used cash for cars, I would definitely use PCP for a new Vantage.
Following talk on here about the December 2019 special deals, and one or two year old trade-in values, the PCP route seems to be far cheaper than outright purchase. It seems that the early buyers, who chose a selection of options, appear to have lost £50,000 in no time at all. PCP payments over that time period are far lower, which does seem ridiculous.
I was in a similar position to you. I test drove both the DB11 and the new Vantage. As I had a DB9 Volante the DB11 was closer to my current vehicle but a significant upgrade.
If you want a GT go for the DB11 if you want a great Sports Car go for the Vantage.
I bought the DB11 Volante and don’t regret it at all.

Bit confused. You have average 1500 miles a year in the DB9 because it feels too special. You want the Vantage to be special too but also want to do 10,000 mile a year in it. Maybe you need a special Aston and a daily driver that you are not too worried about driving every day or getting scratched? My DB9 is in immaculate condition and it only has about 22,000 miles from new. I Average about 1500 miles in my DB7 and have an old MR2 for daily driving or the wife's Focus for carting stuff about.

...... but lose that special feeling. Much like I imagine that a BMW M2 or M3 is a great car but possibly not as special as my DB9.
In my opinion, you are spot on. Your DB9 sounds wonderful and at 22,000 miles, should give you many more years of pleasure.
I still have a BMW E30 in my collection. When that was new there were few BMWs around, so they did have a slightly special feeling then.
All changed now, BMWs are everywhere and rather like Mercedes-Benz, from the front you cannot even tell any model difference
(eg. A-class, B-class, C-class, E-class and SLK).
BMW are now trying a giant grille (model 4) and apparently they are going to offer a grille where the slats illuminate.
Probably not what we would deem to be understated!
What next, under car lighting as an option perhaps?

I’d save your money, keep the DB9. Plan yourself a few little European tours and imagine the fun of parking up at some classy hotels with the understated elegance of the DB9..... having a cracking meal and bottle of wine and after a long breakfast on the terrace The next morning packing up for the next day. Still enough ££ leftover for a fun little daily driver.
