Hi guys,

I have the M350 fibre line with Virgin

I know I should have just invested in a bloody mesh system rather than a new router and turning the VM Suberhub 3 into a modem.

I bought a ASUS 1200+ router as per the link below:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01F4WOFD6/ref=cm_sw_r...

It simply is not cut out for the range I need in the utility kitchen, garage and garden area.

Can anyone recommend a decent, value for money mesh system?

I am tempted by the BT whole Home system, reckon I could get it for £170ish.

Juat want hassle free WiFi which is stable.

Thanks

I have Virgin Superhub (I think I'm on the 200Mbps) and use a Powerline adapter thingy.

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/powerli...

It's a reasonably large semi-detached, built over 3 floors. The Superhub wifi is in the lounge and there's an access point in my study on the 1st floor. Occasionally it needs a reboot but it works fine with all the kids streaming stuff to their laptops/phones/ipads/Smart TVs.

I had Whole Home for a couple of years - no issues at all. Others to look at are the Tenda Nova, Netgear Orbi or Google Nest. All get good reviews.

Agreed. You'll probably get people highly recommending what they have but mesh setups just seem to work.

My Google Nest has been perfect for 8 months or so and covers the entire house/garden after disappointing Virgin coverage in the next room. I bought it because I have a load of other Google home stuff but I'm sure the other brands work just as well.

Good shout. I find that even on the same network and same SSID name these create a seperate connection point which is frustrating.

I have ordered the BT whole home discs. They arrive tomorrow.

Thanks again

I have the Deco system and its superb.

Terrible wifi in my (1940's) house and now the building is 'flooded' with WiFi. I can even sit in the garden with decent signal.

The limitation of the BT system is that anything connected to the ethernet ports are not made available across all access points. It also wont do wired backhaul through a switched.

I ended up switching to orbi and its been faultless

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the information. I tried cancelling the BT awhile system after reading up on the Deco M5. Can't do it as Amazon have sent it out already.

Is the difference major between the Deco M5 and BT Whole?

Thanks

Well I installed the BT Whole system.

I am seriously impressed. Anyone considering a Mesh system, its very much worthwhile especially if someone is working from home 365 days a year and you are a very tech orientated household.

I had one of the dishes located furthest point away (utility room) from the main dish which was plugged into the router. Ended up moving it from the utility room to the kitchen instead and coverage is much better.

What were you were trying to do? - add something like a NAS drive to the network?

I've got the disc in the lounge connected to an Ethernet switch which then supports Hue Bridge, Sonos Beam, Freesat / Freeview Boxes and a security camera, and it all works fine.

The big advantage over all (?) other mesh solutions is that it doesn't replace your router - for the less techy or those that are only allowed to use their broadband provider's router its a big positive.

I've got an Orbi system and it drives me nuts. Most of the time it works well but occasionally it'll decide it needs to star-connection instead of the usual daisy-chain and the connection where i work slows right down to the point it's unusable for what i do.

Mine works great also. I know its a bit backwards but this is my setup

Super Hub 3.0 (Modem) - ASUS 1200+ Router (Wifi Switched off) - First BT Disc - Two Slave BT Discs

I could not be bothered unwiring everything, also i wanted to utilise the ASUS as another ethernet Switch alongside a 6 port Tenda I have.

Same SSID on everything and password. All works. No drop offs.
