Hayabusa - Show some love...
Discussion
Mentioned it before here but I've done an indicated 165 on a Hayabusa - as a pillion. The needle was still climbing when I stopped looking and started praying (I'm 6'1 so you can imagine I had a pretty good view!). Epic bikes but I find them uncomfortable to ride, myself. Except that time I fell asleep on the pillion seat on the M3 coming back from Donington GP.

Ive had 2 , the most recent was an original 1999 model with a couple of thousand miles on the clocks.
Was still on the OE tyres when I bought it ,
sold it in 2016 to fund the RD500.

This one was well pampered and obviously little used but my first one I took to the south of france a couple of times, did trackdays with it, straightliners events and had a ball with it really.
Riding a K6 GSXR 1000 ended the love affair, the GSXR was quicker everwhere and more comfortable with proper brakes and handling, think that applies to the whole genere of these bikes for some years now.
That said, the Busa has a allure to the name and they are iconic bikes, an original 1999 bike will certainly be sought after in the years to come , I sold mine for 5k which is a lot of money for a 1999 Busa but not a lot in the world of classics.

I was the second owner of the first Hayabusa registered in the UK, it had been the show bike that did all the UK bike shows; the first owner had put a £3k deposit on it at the Scottish bike show.
He was also the first guy to get banned for a-hundred-and-stupid mph after all the bad press it received for being a 200mph missile and the Sherrif threw the book at him.
During his lengthy ban, his marriage fell apart, he walked out on his wife and left the bike parked up.
15 years later, when he hadn't come back for it, his wife sold it to me!
It needed a new fuel pump, a full service, tyres, brakes etc but ran like a dream once sorted.
I kept it a few years and then ebayed it, as far as I know it ended up in Eire.

I've got an American bike magazine somewhere with an article called 'From Crate to Eight'
They uncrated a brand spanking new Hayabusa at dawn with the plan to get into the 8s bracket by nightfall, they had about 12hrs to do it and their final run was 8.98 iirc
They still look like someome designed the bike then put the oven on too high a setting when baking the final clay mock up...

My old 2016 model Z edition.
My old 2015 one.
I’d love another. As mentioned, a bit marmite but they hustle around better than they get credit for.
I never has a ‘busa (as a sportsbike rider they were a bit ‘old mannish’ when the first came out, now I am older they are prob too quick) but I have a soft spot for them. Seeing them with the luggage makes me want to do some touring!
