Hi,

Relatively (Brand) new here so looking for some advice!

The EPC light on my MK5 Golf came on my dash the other day before the car cut out shortly afterwards. Car then wouldn’t restart until roughly an hour later.

Ran the car to the garage today and the EPC light came on again, but only when the car reached running temp.

Took it to a garage today who advised that the brake sensor had a fault, and needs to be replaced. Part ordered etc, booked in for later this week.

I can’t work out why the ABS sensor would cause the engine to cut out and not restart. I don’t want to pay for this and have the car cut out on me again days later.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Max

Two unconnected faults by the sound of it, but you never know.

When you ask for help, it is good practice to provide as much information as you can so as to get the best answers, so:

Engine type
Petrol or diesel
Auto or Manual
And anything else that might be relevant.

Hi Colin,

Cheers for the help.

Engine is 1.4 petrol, manual transmission.

The garage cleared 25+ faults from the computer before I took it round the block and the ABS was the only one that reappeared in that time.

Is the MK5 known for electrical issues after 100k + mileage?

My money would be on a faulty EGR valve with that engine.

Quite expensive and needs 'coding' / 'calibrating' to the car.

When the car goes back in for the ABS sensor, ask them to read for any new engine fault codes.
