If you took this attitude to food more generally I am not sure what would be left available to you.

Yes but most food is cooked.

You tend to only get this sort of thing with undercooked food. Undercooked pork can cause something similar.

Is that the actual reason why you don't eat it though?!

One of the worst cases of diarrhoea I've had was from Filet Americain eaten in a station buffet in Mechelen. Raw minced beef...

Sure but you can get plenty of other gross and, in some cases, life threatening things in all kinds of food including cooked foods.

As in French 'steak tartare' which is raw minced 'steak' in a flat-top pyramid with a raw egg on top.

The French idea of 'haute cuisine' is something to behold.

Absolutely delicious if prepared correctly with quality meat.

Strictly speaking steak tartare shouldn't be minced, it should be very finely chopped

Yep, lovely stuff, funnily enough I was chatting to my neighbour about steak tartare today, after I dropped round a fillet steak for him

Now you've got me hankering after it. I only have it very occasionally, but it is delicious.

In the UK most raw fish has to be frozen so it's highly unlikely to occur. Some farmed fish which have a very low chance of worms is exempt, eg. atlantic salmon.

I don't eat sushi because I don't really like it.

Me too! There was a steak restaurant in Tbilisi I used to visit that always served a small portion as a sort of pre starters appetiser. Most of my friends didn't want it so I used to get them all.

Presumably you don’t drive a car because people are crippled or killed every day in car accidents. Actually the list of activities with a small but not zero chance of injury or death is very long do you must live quite a limited life.

Still remember a friend of mine ending up in hospital in Bordeaux 25 years ago after a “disagreement” over the cost of drinks in a nightclub, next day was offered steak as part of the hospital food, chose to have it Bleu, still to this day says it’s the best steak he’s ever had.
You just need top quality ingredients when it comes to tartare and Bleu steak.
Still take the piss out of him even now about it, he kicked off in lollapalooza despite spending several hours in the Connnemara Irish bar with pints somewhere round the £6 mark ( in 1995!! ) if memory serves me right hehe

My first was in the Steak restaurant in Nelson Mandela Square in J'berg, South Africa. Amazing meat.
