What's the scam here.....if any?

About four weeks ago Mrs WR received a small package through the post from China.
Inside was a pair of "Rayban" sunglasses, there was no paperwork, just some Chinese writing over the wrapping paper...I would imagine they were cheap copies, to me looked worth around a fiver.
Today, through the post I have received in a second hand Amazon small packet Two football books, one about alcoholic footballers called "Bottled", and the other called "Gunshots & Goalposts" about Northern Irish football, neither of which I have the slightest interest in. They were both by the same author Benjamin Roberts.
Both deliveries were addressed to us with the correct post code etc.
These items have definitely not been ordered by us.

Those were my thoughts.The value of the items were peanuts, but they still had to pay to post them, £3.70 in the case of the books.
We didn't sign for them, they were just posted through the letterbox.
I know a bloke who wanted to improve his business with the corporate world.
He had 10000 (IIRC. Possibly much more) hard bound books printed of his work printed (utter tosh- but no one really bins a hard bound book )
He put them on Amazon. (Or could have been a retailers website... long time ago) Then bought them.
He gave a copy to the head of marketing of every business he wanted his company to work with.
His book became a No 1 best seller just by him buying them.
Joe public started buying it ... a lot.
He easily recouped all his costs.
He was a very interesting guy. Great motivational speaker to boot
