Porsche Wheel Refurb

Firstly I’m new to PHs so go easy on me please!

I’ve been lucky enough to acquire a Porsche Boxster 3.2S 550 Spyder Anniversary edition but it needs a little TLC.

I’m looking for some general guidance on restoring a car as I intend to keep hold of it given it’s rarity but wish to keep it as true to itself as possible.

I’ve never restored or owned a (potentially) collectible car and want to get the general view about restorations for example should I get the wheels refurbed as the previous owner has grazed the rims in a great places or will that effect the value?

I don't see how refinishing the wheels to the original Porsche spec would reduce its value. If they're damaged they should be fixed! There are Porsche approved wheel places out there.

Same for everything else in my opinion, light general wear is OK unless it's too far gone to look good. Damage should be repaired or parts replaced with new or refurbished originals.

But I'm no expert, just my 2p opinion

If Exel Wheels are still going, I'd definitely recommend them. They offer a loan wheel service where they'll come to you with loan wheels for your car & take yours away to get refurbished. They usually return with your beautifully re-furbed wheels about a week later & refit them to your car; I think they used to use Lepsons for the actual re-furb.

They've always done a top job for me and their service offers minimum hassle for you, definitely worth a phone call.

Thanks to all who have replied, really helpful. I’m based in the Midlands so will give Excel Wheels a look and if they are still going see what they will charge.

For reference, the place I use is Porsche approved and charges £60+VAT per wheel for a full refurb on a drive-in/drive-out basis.

I had my 550 wheels refurbed by Exel. You won't get the cheap prices because it needs masking up for the 2 tone finish.

Lepsons are probably the best, which is why Exel use them, but there are many other companies that do a job that could be just as good. The technology to refurb properly is widespread - you just need someone who cares enough.

I'm sure some Porsche owners will be horrified to hear but these are just 'wheels', and any local proper refurb place could do just as good a job as Lepsons.

Try and find local recommendations, particularly for two-colours/masking. And then when you kerb one, and you will, you can get it redone easily.

I use a place in Crawley - here's a set I had done earlier

Thanks, I’m trying to find a local service if possible for that very reason as i know what im’m like

PS oversized rubber bumpers might be my next option!
