Quote from article:

"The state support is allowing Autohaus Koenig, a dealership chain with more than 50 locations across Germany, to advertise a lease for the battery-powered Renault Zoe that is entirely covered by subsidies."

That is quite something

I guess its something like having $7500 subsidy but instead of taking it off the sticker price you just use it to cover the lease for 2 years? I think that is actually a much better use of the subsidy. Money off the list price still means signing up to a few hundred a month on a lease, but if you can have the money just cover the monthlies instead, its a total no brainer and will get more EVs on the road.

Germany does seem to really pulling out the stops to get people into EVs now. I have suppliers and customers all over Germany.

At least 6 now have I3s when I asked one who is a good friend, why the sudden change. He explained by the time he had a grant, tax right off through his company etc. It cost him less than 20,000 euro. So he drives it locally and uses his big Audi for business trips.

I guess ultimately you would like for him to get rid of his Audi but for the time being it’s not practical.

Still a step in the right direction.

Well, with VW about to open the taps on their big investment (ID3 and its cousins), maybe its a way for the German government to keep some money flowing to one of their biggest employers.
