At the risk of sounding very silly.... biggrin

I've suffered with dry and patchy skin over various parts of my body (face, legs, arms, abdomen) and recently found the amazing benefits of real, pure, extra virgin Coconut Oil. It's effects are quite fantastic, and I've been absolutely smearing it on by the handful for months now... completely organic too.

However I'm starting to get a bit concerned that this might not be the most sensible thing to be doing, given it is complete saturated fat. There are lots of things that are medially administered via a Transdermal (through the skin) method - think Nicotine patches and Hormone creams etc. So things on the skin can be absorbed and enter the bloodstream.

Am I just asking for a heart attack and other issues by letting all this coconut oil be absorbed into my skin? Will this be raising my cholesterol and fat levels? Or is it harmless?

Again it probably sounds completely thick, but hopefully you can see my reasoning...!

It will be harmful to your wallet, but will make no difference to your health - it won't get into your bloodstream in any meaningful (if any) amount. The skin is a very efficient barrier.
