Dunlop Motorsport confirms that it has signed a deal with EERC for three years to be sole tyre suppliers to the Britcar and Production S1 series including the Willhire 5 HR and Silverstone 24hr events to 2008. In addition the Birmingham based Motorsport operation is committing to support the championship with team incentives and marketing activities. Dunlop is the sole tyre supplier and has been involved with the championship since its inception.

Gary Wassell, Manager Dunlop Motorsport UK said::cool:

“This series is almost certainly the fastest growing in UK and following SRO’s decision regarding the contract to supply British GT our focus will now be concentrated on Britcar.
We survive by, and excel at, supplying teams (our customers) with a package they want and without doubt the EERC series is doing exactly that
“By working with EERC we aim to provide our customers with what they are looking for in a series and we will continue to talk to them and listen to their opinions.
On top of running with a premium tyre at superb circuits we are offering full works technical support, PR and promotional support as well as a £40,000 tyre prize fund and a Spa 24 Hour drive. We’re also bringing Café Dunlop which has already proved to be successful with the teams, organisers and media at BTCC and British GT. Discussions are ongoing and further announcements will be made in due course.”

I'll miss Cafe Dunlop .

Real pain for the Ginettas and the Minis that Dunlop are no longer supplying the GT's - we must have had the best national class tyre support going these last two years.

Shouldn't this be in the Britcar section of the site?

It effects both so it's posted on both, one gains the other loses, quite simple really, if that's all you have to say about it perhaps you should get out more when the suns not in eclipse mode.

Well, comments like that really piss me off and I've had a really bad day, nothing but aggravation from start to finish, so he gets a mouthful, not on here so much but on dailysportscar he cops some, bloody cheek!

Fcuk, I'm turning into a grumpy old man

I posted the above comment (and the one on DSC) after I wandered onto PH, Ten Tenths and DSC to have a quick look around and found that you'd just pasted the same press release several times, which irritated me a bit.

Edited massively after reading your response on DSC. Rod, I'll send you a PM from either here or there. Like you, I had a bad day, hence my response on there...

So we both became irritated and we both had a bad day, I thought the press release would interest people, you thought I was posting it just to stir.

I have nothing against GT, far from it,apart from the fact that they should of consulted the teams before changing tyre suppliers,it's just good customer relations and we were the customers when all said and done. I think it's a great place to race if you understand the rules and regs on power to weight ratio's and have the right car and budget, I didn't have any of the above but if and when I return I will

No real offence intended, apart for the smallest flick of the ear prehaps,

Have a nice day

Playing devils advocate - when a tyre supplier becomes exclusive to a series whats in it for the customer?

One advantage is that everyone uses the same compound and construction of tyre, making the playing field that bit more level.

But the biggest advantage is the tyre service you get at the circuit - if lots of competitors at one event are using Dunlop then they gear up appropriately.

The great thing about Dunlop in BGT is that we're not all on the same compound/construction, so we can have tyres to make the car work and not just struggle along with what's supplied.

But I understand your point with regard to Tuscans etc.

Phil, the other thing about the relationship with Dunlop that will be a shame to lose is the ability to go and race in Europe on a tyre that we all know well, which instantly removes one of the variables.

I didn't realise that - I thought you were effectively on a control tyre

There are generally three or four different slicks available, but you can ask for others if you wish. It's not unusual to find a car with three (and occasionally four) different compounds over its four tyres.
