I'm turning to the PH collective here for some help please! Having just read the thread about what SIM card the wife's contract is up with Vodafone and would like a new phone, whilst also reducing her bill.

Currently, she has a Sony Xperia Compact XZ1 and wants to stay with a similar sized phone. Sony don't do any other compact style phones now, the wife doesn't particularly want a Samsung but I think the A41 one is going to be one that comes closest for matching in size and I'm a bit of a loss as to what other brands that would suit her needs?

Does anyone have any other suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks biggrinbeer

Depends on your budget really.

A Samsung Galaxy S10e would be similar in size but with a much better screen to body ratio, for example.

Just noticed you are referring to the Compact XZ1. The S10e will be a bigger handset. Smaller Android handsets are quite thin on the ground.

When I was in a similar situation a few years back (moving from a Sony Z3C) I went to the iPhone 7 and it wasn't a crazy jump in size.
This site is helpful for quickly checking the sizes

How expensive would the new iPhone SE be? In terms of size it's about 1cm taller and a little bit thinner than what she's got

Every time I've bought a new bigger phone my initial thought is ,is it going to be too big and unwieldy and in every case I've got used to the size within a couple of weeks and don't notice it anymore.
Every time I see someone with one of the smaller iphones with their comparatively tiny screens I wonder how do they manage !

Yep, hits the sweet spot of performance and price in a sensibly sized package. Should last longer than anything Android based too.

Exactly the same, use a Nexus 6p my own phone and have an iPhone SE as my work phone, even though it's got unlimited calls and data and I have both on me, for anything other that work calls I'll use my Nexus as it's just so much easier and comfortable to view stuff on a bigger screen
Even texting is a pain on the smaller phone.

If a small phone is the only requirement then iPhone SE will tick the box, I'm not sure what else there is that will be able to compare in terms of specs.

I've just bought the Mrs an iPhone SE. She hates the bigger phones and her old 5SE needed to go. She's very happy with it.

I went from a Z3 compact to a S10e, at the time the newer Sony compact was the only other thing of a similar size but the fingerprint scanner was in a stupid place. I think the S10e is a fraction bigger than my old one but not noticeably so, and as said above the screen is quite a bit bigger as it doesn't have the top and bottom bezels like the Sony. It also has 128GB built in which is very useful as I wanted dual sim and, in common with most other dual sim phones, you can't use a second sim and a memory card.

Thanks for the recommendations so far, but realised as soon as I saw some of the replies, I should have stated the wife doesn't want an iPhone boxedin

After following the ever increasing size of phones in recent years I have recently gone 'backwards' to a S10e. All the tech I need in a much smaller and more manageable handset. Works for me.

S10e will probably be the best you can get otherwise plenty of Chinese own brand stuff on Amazon, eBay, Wish etc

The Pixel 3A might still be worth a look, especially if she uses the camera quite a bit.

Quite. I 'switched' to another Experia compact. After doing the research I concluded it was the best phone in its class for me. In fairness i have a tablet though and reasonable eyesight, so don't need a phone that's the size of a paperback.

The XZ1 compact was a decent phone unfortunately Sony ruined it with buggy android 9 & hasn't been supported since September 19

The S10e would be a good fit if you can find one at a sensible price they're discontinued patch's & updates maybe slow if you're considering a S10e you may as well consider a S20

Pixel 3A is a good option but they're £329 & have been as low £279 considering they end of line and the pixel 4A is overdue

I'm in the same situation
