Low platelets and neutrophils - not leukaemia

Beginning of June my 3 year old son started getting heavy nosebleeds, bruises and would bleed from the gums.

We took him to A&E and from there we didn’t come home for a week whilst he received multiple platelet transfusions and blood tests and eventually transferred to great ormon street for bone marrow testing as blood tests all pointed to leukaemia.

The bone marrow test showed it wasn’t leukaemia. He was diagnosed with ITP and we were sent home the next day with some blood clotting medicine and would return for more blood tests in 2 weeks time to check that the platelets and WBC had increased

Those blood tests were this week and the levels are still low and the doctors seem surprised and are now doing further tests at GOSH and sending to a pathology lab in Bristol to try and find out what’s going on

They said before it could be related to a virus but son has not been ill (or seen anyone as we’ve been isolating due to having a baby on the way that came end of May). They did a full vrius check on him which came back negative

We are now on another wait to see what comes back from these next tests and need to keep him wrapped up in cotton wool and check his temperature regularly and get him straight to hospital at any sign of infection as his immune system is rock bottom

Has anyone had any experience of similar ?

I’ve read up as much as I can find on ITP and it doesn’t seem typical
