Loud pipe

Based on the recent thread it feels somewhat like admitting to be a mass murder (or worse - for PH - a socialist!) but today I got an Akrapovic for the Tuono.



Riding it home it was certainly louder but I wasn’t wearing earplugs (short journey) and it didn’t seem to bad. Yes noisier than the standard can but not anywhere close to HD loud.

I didn’t buy it for the noise - just that the standard can on the Tuono ranks as one of the ugliest exhausts I’ve seen on a bike. Don’t understand how Ducati can make a perfectly acceptable Euro compliant exhaust for the V4 but Aprilia saddles the Tuono with a monstrosity.

I also understand that the standard fuel map is very lean (again to meet emissions), which isn’t necessarily good for the engine and the race map that comes with the Akrapovic is better for riding and longevity of the engine. That could be man maths though!

Whilst at the dealer saw a Triumph Moto 2. Anyone on here bought one?



Looked lovely but a lot of cash for a GSXR 750 rival (literally twice the price of a GSXR 750 here in NZ).

Whilst I was waiting for them to fit the pipe and do the brake pad recall work I had a test ride on a Speed Twin and then a Street Triple. The former was fun but I thought the engine was a bit agricultural and was best under 4K. The Street Triple RS was very good. Was a bike I was considering when I bought the Tuono. Great handling and really easy to ride but doesn’t have the character of the Aprilia.

Akrapovic are a good compromise. They sound nice but aren't mega-loud.

Akrapovic is a good pipe. I have one on my K1300S. Very nice note. Not obtrusive unless of course you remove the baffle which I haven't and won't.

Baffle our. I didn’t get a choice. I asked mechanic and he said Aprilia NZ say they should be fitted without as apparently with the race map they don’t work properly with the baffle. Not sure about that but I didn’t argue.

OK, I'll bite. Why not put the baffle back in, and get it mapped accordingly?

Baffle-out on a big twin is going to be LOUD! We'd still be able to hear you, even if you were in New Zealand. Oh, hang on ...

Aprilia is loud with stock pipe (with baffle and proper cat).
You now have less restricted Acra with baffle out.
It's gonna be LOUD.
Many sheep will get heart and incontinence attacks.
Eventually you will be shot by a righteous farmer.
Ergo: keep the revs social if you want to live.
