Advice on buying an X5

Morning collective
I'm looking at buying a used X5. There seems to be an abundance of 2012 and 2013 models. Any reason for that? The idea is that we're going to buy it as a family car and run it until the MOT isn't worth it. So I'm not really fussed about retaining value etc. I'm more interested in overheads, wear and tear, maintenance cost etc. Looking to spend around £15k for 60,000 miles, something like that.
So I hope some kind souls can offer any thoughts of things to look out for. Any common faults. Any no-brainers etc. Things to avoid in those models. All input and ideas welcome.What I seem to have gleaned so far is;
- 7 seaters are hard to find and sell quickly. We'd ideally like a 7 seater but have to even find one to look at. Are there any downsides that I've missed on 7 seats?
- there doesn't really seem to enough difference between the 30d, 35d and 40d. Therefore probably aim for 30d?
- There's quite a big difference between the satnav and the pro version. the older satnav seems quite dated (which is fair for an eight year old car).
If anybody would like to add any thoughts, tips, warnings, then I'd be very grateful. TIA
