They certainly look like cloth...

Surely leather has to be a must on cars at the price point ?

Sport-Tex, I think they call them.

Leather interiors are very expensive and not very sustainable. Hence the rise of alternatives across the patch.

That looks like Sportex. I don't think this any longer an option.

Leather: too hot in summer, too cold in winter. Sportex seems like a good option and I imagine will wear much better.

And too slippy all year round. What the difference between Sportex and Racetex and ordinary cloth is I'm not sure. They used to charge a serious premium for Sportex, if they give you the same thing for free, that seems like a win to me. In the 981 they didn't give you leather seat cushions on the base car - only on the S, but gave you faux suede (whatever they chose to call it) on the base car. So really there is no change except you get cloth rather than faux suede.

"Sustainability" in terms of environmental impact.

I've read a few articles now about it ref: cows being more damaging to the environment/less recyclable than some of the plastics/PVCs/PUs and textiles that are used in modern cars.

I'll stick with the natural product as its been around since 1200BC and will be around for many years to come.

Another vote for Sportex/Alcantara here. I used to insist on leather but since having Sportex and Alcantara on my current cars I much prefer them. Warm in winter cool in summer and fewer “ soggy shirts” !!

The seats in that top pic look low rent crap.
Bit like the T model seats.

Real leather sides with alcantara inside for me is quality.
Hate full leather, and hate these modern cheap looking ones.

There is very little actual leather in a Cayman seat. It’s only the seat face. Even with the full leather option the seats are still only the seat face. The rest of it is imitation leather.
