Hi guys, we are consider a change in car shortly, have never leased but have read it can sometimes be beat way to go. Looking at the leon cupra st 4drive, if buying my budget would be approx £20k.

How would this compare to just leasing? Eg depreciation vs least cost, appreciate this is not like for like as one is brand new,

I would be keeping for 24 months, doing approx 10k per year.

Thanks

Just over two years ago I leased an ST 4Drive as it was the cheapest option to have the car for two years (I got a deal at 6 upfront and £310 per month over 24 months and 14k per year)

Acguallyendedthe lease early as ifound the car extremely boring - competent though

Residual value on a used car plotting forward 2 years in the current climate is nigh on impossible (made worse by the model now being the old model) ,depreciation is likely to be the biggest cost.

A new car if there are any still leftwing only need one service (cheapest I could find was £160 - extortionate for an oil / filter change), maybe a pair of front tyres (mine were fine after 14k, 5mm left)

If you want certainty then lease, you may be better with a used car financially but it will be a gamble

It'll depend on the deals out there but I don't see buying a used one as a bad option as they will still have their Manufacture's Warranty on them which you can extend, you can also get a service pack (which you'd be buying for the lease car) which means you know where you are bill wise.

The Cupra has enough of a following that it shouldn't depreciate massively especially the 4WD models which are rare (there's a readers thread on one of these) so will be sought after.
