Just to avoid confusion by those who weren't sentient then, the 'Winter of Discontent' was under the previous Labour Callaghan government.

And the three day week under the Conservative Heath government.

As you're enjoying that, listen to 'The Falklands Play' with Patricia Hodge as Mrs T. It's currently on BBC Sounds as part of 'I Played the Prime Minister':

Heath was pretty useless.

Oddly enough now people want three day weeks so they don't have to work so hard...!

I really enjoyed this - as a child of the 70s I can remember a lot of it. At 5 hours long there's a lot of detail in it too.

A good programme as it showed a lot about he 70s and 80s, not just Thatcher/politics. Though I guess that everything is politics. Especially in the 70s and 80s. smile

This is a very good series. As a young kid of the Thatcher era I can still recall the names of nearly all of her cabinet, but thats more thanks to Spitting Image than anything else.

Thanks for the heads up OP.

Good TV series and showed how Margaret had belief in her ideology rather than following a populist agenda. Oh for a such a leader now!

I served under a Brigadier Neave in the army in the 90's. I wonder if he is any relation?

I watched it earlier this month and found it fascinating.

I thought it was one of those programmes you show to people who question the licence fee. It's a pity there aren't more programmes like it. That said, the Murdoch Dynasty shows promise.

I thought it was excellent series.

She was an impressive character, whether or not you agreed with everything that she did.

Standing up and giving her conference speech the day after the Brighton bomb.

What it also showed was that she was incapable of understanding that not everybody was a fiercely intelligent workaholic with a supportive family and a good (if not wealthy) start in life. Empathy wasn't a strong point.

Ken Clarke's political memoir, "A Kind of Blue", is well worth a read.
