ebay - case closed after sending item?
Discussion
has anyone had this before? I sold a CPU and forgot to add the tracking information, the buyer has recieved the item and I have the tracking proof for this but he didn't close the dispute and ebay have automatically closed the dispute and refunded him - if I give the proof to ebay now should it reverse the decision?

If you had proof of postage and the tracking number to prove he had received the item, why didn't you provide this to eBay when the dispute was raised?
If a buyer raises a dispute, the seller is given an opportunity to provide a resolution before eBay steps in to resolve it.
I posted the item, got tracking then simply didn't check ebay for a week - logged in now to see they'd opened a dispute and it's already been closed in their favour If a buyer raises a dispute, the seller is given an opportunity to provide a resolution before eBay steps in to resolve it.

I believe I know the answer to this this message is meant to be informative
I think that this has been opened and closed very promptly is that right OP ?
If so it is because of some changes e bay made some time ago It will have been advised in an e bay message and dates back several months.
These changes are
The seller must upload tracking information when they dispatch via the tracking box that appears when you click on the sold item.
If you use ebay's integrated packlink system it will enter the tracking reference automatically.
If you go to the Post Office and get a reference from them or book your own courier and get a reference you are now expected to enter the tracking reference into the box at time of dispatch.
Advising the buyer via the messaging system whilst polite and of reassurance to the buyer does not cover you
You have to enter tracking reference in the box at time of dispatch.
A seller can open a case after a reasonable amount of days and that case can be escalated almost straight away as the system will check to see if there is a tracking reference in the box if not it will be closed in favour of the buyer
I use a combination of Royal mail and Hermes and I will eneter the tracking references as soon as possible after returning home.
It can be a pain but its how they want it doing

You can enter the tracking number in the relevant field when the case is opened. It's not mandatory at time of sending.
For the case to be opened and closed before the OP even noticed seems odd. You normally get a reasonable period of time to respond before it can be escalated. I had a "lost" item a week or so ago.

I've not been entering tracking info, as recently as yesterday, and the system hasn't s
t itself. Maybe we have different user agreements. As someone who runs a small ebay business, this isn't a worry as the Royal Mail system links direct to ebay.
If you're someone flogging stuff here and there, use the ebay packlink option and again it's not an issue.
The issue comes when you flog something, post it yourself then don't bother uploading the tracking information. However it's only an issue if the buyer raises a case, of which the seller will get an email telling them so, then usually a reminder telling them they need to take action. If the seller then ignores all the warnings, ebay close the case in favour of the buyer. If the seller uploads tracking information which shows it being delivered, ebay side with the seller.

Or ask the buyer just to resend you the money? Further changes
