Rough running tvr S

Help!
I have recently aquired a 1988 S 2.8
I am attempting to get it to run right, checked airflow plate level, new plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm.
repaired intake hose (hole in it).
new fuel pump relay
starts fine, settles down but revs to high.
when warm wont start cleanly, takes a few goes then has to clear its throat before running ish!
static timing is ok at 0 deg.
not sure if power getting to warm up regulator or bypass valve and thermo time switch not showing any thing on electric tester when engine cold. Should it?
Help!

Don't think the 2.8 has a throttle pot. Could be wrong though.
Another thing to check is the 'auxilliary air device' - this increases the fuel/air mixture when cold. On my S1, this was powered up all the time, instead of just when cold, leading to similar symptoms to those you describe. I just unplugged it - problem solved. One day I'll get round to finding out just why it never turns off. . .
Seen one or two similar posts on here, make me think it may be a common problem.

The two observations I would make are
Timing - Why static 0 degrees. This will be too retarded and will result in a loss of power. The manual states 12deg at 850 rpm.
Mixture - You note that you have repaired a hole in the inlet hose. Have you weakened off the mixture. It is fairly common nthat when these hoses get holed, the mixture is weak and the idle is poor. The easy fix is to richen up the mixture. If this was the case and you have not re-adjusted you could just be running very rich, which may show high tickover while cold as it needs a rich mixture. Once warm this would result in poor tickover and poor acceleration.
This may not be the cure but it is always worth starting with the easy (and free) things.
At least the weather is poor this weekend so you are not missing out on too much.
I hope you manage to get it sorted.
