"supercar" under 40k
Discussion
Hi everyone, I'm looking for some help and advice.
2 years ago I sold a 2010 Nissan GTR (650bhp) to put a deposit down on a house, before that I owned an R34 GTR (800bhp) which I sold because I got an offer I couldn't refuse.
2 years later and I've realised there's a hole in my life and it's my passion for cars, so I want to get back in to something fun an fast for the weekends.
I have a company car for work travel so I have practical covered I just need something to put a smile on my face.
I've looked through various websites and have seen a few options
(another) Nissan GTR
Lotus Evora sportsracer S
Aston Martin DB9
Toyota Supra (tuned obviously)
I just can't decide on what would be the best to go for. I lean back towards the GTR because I know I won't be disappointed by it but then on the other hand I've had one before so a change might be a good thing and I might come across something I enjoy even more.
Any suggestions on what can scratch my itch?

Bearing your company car in mind, I'd want something a bit more special than the GTR. An R8 or Exige 350 perhaps.
You don't think the GTR is a special car? I rather enjoyed mine, but I guess for them to be really special they have to be tuned. Never really been a fan of the looks of the R8 thoughAmbleton said:
my friend had the same itch and bought one of the late V8 TT Esprit. On the road it keeps up with an R8 but is much more engaging and eventful. Sounds good, looks good and won't lose any value.
Just make sure you keep budget for the gearbox unless its already been done.
Decent suggestion but was looking for something a little more modern, would still like some mod cons like being able to plug my phone in for music (if bluetooth isn't available)Just make sure you keep budget for the gearbox unless its already been done.

I don't see the Jaguar as a "super car" more a GT car.
Corvette I've heard are plastic and poorly made
Porsche I find boring because you can't tell one from the other.
I'm fussy I know but spending that amount of money I want it to put a smile on my face
To be fair, none of the cars you mentioned in your OP are "Supercars". They're all powerful sports cars with the exception of the Aston Martin which is a GT Car.Corvette I've heard are plastic and poorly made

That's why I used the air quotes lol.Yeah I want something powerful with a bit of a sense of occasion that makes me people think wow when they see it. That's why I keep leaning back to the GTR, I know it draws attention, it sounds incredible and it has a fair amount of power.....but on the other hand I've had one before so do I try something different?

For sense of occasion a Maserati Gransport might do the trick. I have not driven one, but suspect it is more on the GT side than the sharp driving tool side of things.
Really don't like the look of those but yeah I'd consider it more a GT carozzuk said:
As above, none of those are supercars, however I did finally see the new supra in the flesh on the weekend in white - and it looked pretty good! You'd need to up your budget though as they seem closer to 50k than 40k and very few for sale (3 on PH).
Don't even get me started on the new Supra lol, I'm a jap car enthusiast so it upsets me that it is even called a supra
Bit of budget creep and bit of haggling .... this would definitely give sense of occasion

For that "special" feeling, I'd be looking at TVRs and Lotus. A TVR T350 is well within budget:

Or a Tuscan (even cheaper):

Otherwise, a Lotus Evora or an Exige.

Flying to flag for the corvette, yes they do have cheap interiors, but mechanically they are no cheaper than any other cars listed here.
I wouldnt rule one out. 40k gets a whole load of corvette too.
How much driving time do you really spend looking at the type of plastic your dash is made of?
