Hi,

Recently purchased and worndering how easy it is for the Key Fob to be reprogrammed so it fold mirrors on close and unfolds on open ?

Also would like to be able to open / close the roof via the keyfob ?

If it can be done , can anyone recommend somewhere suitable that can do this ?

Obligatory photo of the new car.......

Thanks,
Nick

The roof should close or open if you keep the relevant key pressed on the fob.

You will probably need to code the folding mirrors, if it's possible on that vehicle. I had a 2004 645 and it wasn't, but it was on my F32. The best thing for this is the Carly dongle and app. https://www.mycarly.com/brands/bmw/

This - I have a same age 650, hold down the unlock button and it’ll drop the windows and then open the roof, hold the lock button and it’ll close everything up. I don’t tend to do this often, as I’m not sure how much it drains the battery on such a large roof!

There’s no setting in the iDrive I can find for the mirrors, so I think you‘ll need to get someone to program that for you.

This isn't key related, as others have said it's coding of the car. Assuming you have folding mirrors already of course. I get asked a lot to code folding mirrors, only for the car to show up & not even have folding mirrors rolleyes

The car has folding mirrors, I use the button on the drivers door.

On my coupe I press and hold lock on the remote for a few seconds and the mirrors then fold in.

I think I had to tell it to do this on the iDrive somewhere but can't recall as it was ages ago!

It can be coded to fold upon locking then.

If I unlock the car and hold onto the unlock button, the windows all come down but not the roof.

If I lock the car the windows do not go up again.

Time to read the handbook / google where in the iDrive I can change this.

As for the mirrors, any pointers on where I can get them programmed to fold/unfold via the key fob ?

Thanks
Nick

Looking at your profile if this was four months ago I'd have done it for you in the car park in Compass! Fortunately the puple machine decided I was surplus to requirements so I'm elsewhere now. The Carly app and dongle is only about £100, and it's worth it as there is a fair bit else you can do with it.

In terms of the roof not operating on the key that is odd. Do you have both keys and does it work on one but not both? It could be the battery in the fob isn't strong enough to send a sustained signal to initate the roof mechanism. Things to check
- is the boot properly shut (basic I know but there's an interface between the boot lock mircro switch and the roof functionality - mine catches me out every year or so) and does the roof work off the in car control?
- does it work when you put the mechanical key into the drivers lock, lock the car and hold the key in the lock position?

It might be worth seeing if you can get an appointment with a BMW Genius at a dealer to go over it.

@CollectingBrass

Firstly, Sorry to hear about the job...... I'm based in T5 (Baggage Duty Manager), work for Vanderlande.

I'll try out your suggestions. Roof definitely working from the button in the car fine.

The second key fob i actually sent away today as it wasn't working when i bought the car.

Cheers,
Nick

It's strange if the mirrors don't fold in when locking the car if you hold the key for an extra couple of seconds. They should then fold out again when the car is unlocked.

It's been the same on both of my 4 series and my X5 so would expect it on the 6.
