84k service on 156
Discussion
I had my 84k service on Monday - it should be a cheapie at 0.7 hours, but I needed discs and pads all round so it came in at £500. Not too bad I suppose.
However, the 'Comments' section didn't make pleasant reading. Two comments in particular sound bad for the wallet:
1) Suspect mass air flow meter fault
2) Sump cracked
No.1 is in response to my query about the flat spot at 3,000rpm. Any other JTD owners with any experience of this? They didn't put it on the diagnostics to confirm, but it sounds likely.
No.2 is a result of the car being so low and the engine so heavy. I'm pretty sure I know where I did it (nearly broke my teeth, let alone the sump) and it does explain the oil on my drive. I can get a replacement (any idea of a price pwig?) or get it welded for about £160. Anyone had any experience of either or recommendation?
Cheers.

Ummm I had the flat spot at 3,000, turned out not to be the AFM but a leak somewhere around it. They tried another off another car and found that it dissapeared, putting my old one back on it had gone so came to the conclusion that it was one of the joints not sealing. Having said that AFM & MAP sensors are weak points, but then their German made by Bosche so what do you expect
As for the sump I'm surprised I whacked my undertray a few times but never struck the sump. I've been told that the ali isn't particularly good for welding but YMMV.
Incidentally when I needed discs I went to Car Parts Direct and brought their Rossini Grooved ones, looked super sexy and were £ 150 the fronts shipped, my Alfa dealer were happy to fit them.

Cheers Jim
I'll mention the possibility of a leak to the garage - sounds cheaper :-)
I've battered the undertray on mine more times than I care to mention but I've had the car long enough to drive in sympathy with bumps. What caught me out for the cracked sump was the road suddenly dipping away - I smacked the sump as the road levelled out again. I saw the bl**dy great gouge in the bottom of it when it had its MOT a few months back, but I had my fingers crossed that the leak was something simple like a loose sump plug!

It's still going strong Jim... Must be the longest I have kept a car for a while so it's a good sign.
Incidentally the flat spot is back, did you cure it by checking the airflow attachments?
Sorry, bit of a thread hijack there.
Hope the porker is doing well, sold mine for a TVR
Mike, glad you're still happy, Porker is well and has now done 4k miles since buying it!
Flat spot took the garage 2 attempts to sort. AFM is favourite and a common point of failure. Worth finding a specialist to investigate as otherwise all they do is just fit new bits at your expense till they fix it! It doesn't show up on the diagnostics either AFAIK. MAF sensors also have a fairly short life but generally affect driveability, rather than give a misfire.
