VAT refund due on holiday let?

Hi,

We booked a holiday let about 9 months ago and paid a deposit. About 6 Weeks ago we paid the remaining balance.

We are due to go to the holiday accommodation next week but since then the VAT rate has changed.

Does the VAT rate apply from time of booking or the time of the actual accommodation?

What is the invoice date, that'll be the important date here. Also, has the agent reduced their prices - the VAT reduction wasn't necessarily about passing it on to the customer and a lot of places are retaining the extra income to cover the downturn so far.

We were charged £x,xxx plus vat on the invoice so I would have assumed that the prevailing rate of interest should apply but I think you’re right with the invoice date which is prior to the rate reduction.

I'd have a look on the website, see if they have reduced the prices and see whether they would be prepared to offer something but there would be no obligation on them to do so. I had a hotel booked and they left the price as was but gave us some wine for the room etc (without us asking, they told us when we checked in).
