Hi there People
I have an awkward central locking problem.
I have searched through the Forum but cannot find anything close to my problem.
My vehicle is an A3 2009 plate.
8P1 [2003-2012] Hatchback·1.9 TDI Hatchback·1896ccm 105HP 77KW
When I walk towards the car I press the unlock on the module I see both hazard lights flash I then try to open the driver’s door, no joy.
I found out by inserting the key and turning it a quarter of a turn it unlocks, I withdraw the key and open the door and I’m in.
The same scenario but with a subtle difference, when I walk towards the car I press the unlock twice on the module I see both hazard lights flash I then try to open the passenger door, and I’m in.
On both occasions I can hear the actuator sound.
I have no problem opening either door from the inside.
I have no problem locking both doors from the inside
When the vehicle moves off I can hear both doors lock.
I have a Foxwell Multi-System Scanner NT510 Elite, as yet I have not run this through the scanner, I’m waiting for somebody point in the right direction codes or no codes.
So before I start taking the interior panel off has anybody got any solutions?

You just need bite the bullet and replace the door lock module, it sounds like the motor hasn't enough puff to completely unlock the mechanism on its own.

^^^ This.

You can probably get a fault code reading if you have VCDS or whatever, but that will probably just show 'Malfunction' on the problematic door.

I've replaced three out of four on my Golf myself, they're cheap enough if you get an aftermarket unit off eBay. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same part numbers on an A3. Have a look on Youtube for a guide - on mine you take the outer door skin off rather than the inner door card.

Hi there
Thanks for contributing to my thread, I don't have the availability of a "mig welder" so the door skin will not be coming off any time soon.
In the event that I might have to remove the interior door panel I have purchased a box of various sized "retainers and the tool" so no sweat if I break the odd retainer.
Going back to YouTube what do you suggest as my search term ?

No welding necessary laugh FWIW on the Golf the outer skin just unbolts.

Although a quick Google suggests the A3 is more conventional and you would indeed just go via the inner door card.

Hi there
Thanks for your help
As you can see by the attachment, the red box I do not have those screw holes.
The yellow box they do not appear on my vehicle.
Would the differences be because yours is a Golf and mine is an Audi.
My numbers are "8P1 [2003-2012] Hatchback·1.9 TDI Hatchback·1896ccm 105HP 77KW"
The only other reason is mine is 2009 plate
