does such a thing exist?

looking for something that will allow me to turn on a device from a remote location and again turn if off if required

i know theres plenty of timers out there etc but i need something

that can safely be activated remotely and is completely safe(no dodgy no name brands please)
ideally something that offers app control would be a bonus.

Kasa smart plugs for me. But there are loads.

Actually it requires the thing you want switching on to be on... the plug just makes the power available. That might not be what you want.

Look for any Alexa controlled plug switch, then use Alexa app on your phone even if you don't have any echo speaker devices.

Another vote for the TPLink Kasa jobbies. Easy to set up and work perfectly, ours are connected through Alexa to switch on stuff by voice command, and the phone app lets you set a timer or just turn them on and off manually.

As an alternative, the Ikea Tradfri smart plugs are good for this as well and a real bargain at £10 each.

They say you need the Tradfri controller unit, but if you have any of the Amazon echos with the built in Zigbee hub then it can control them directly.

ok to add a bit more information i'm wanting something that will let me activate a wax melter in the wifes work before she heads in each day so ideally app controled or no need to be on the same site.

fine for it to be switched on and just have the plug activated but i also need to be mindful it will draw 4-500w through it as well

My Tplink H100 plugs will switch a 1,500w ceramic heater on ok. The Tplink Tapo plugs are cheaper at £10.99 on Amazon and are easy to set up/work well. Haven't tried my Tapo with anything especially high power though.

That's only 2 amps, so not a huge load.

As another datapoint, I'm also happy with some tp-link HS100 plugs. One switches about 300W of lighting without complaint.

Will she put wax in it the previous night?

I use one with an 800w dehydrator with no problems. Maximum load on the hs100 is 2.99kw

Yes wax comes in slab form so thinking being load it up with 50 kilo of wax the night before and then start it remotely when she gets up in the morning so it’s all good to go when she rocks up at work 2 hours later

The Kasa ones are good, but so are the Amazon branded smart plugs. Using the Alexa app they all look the same and work in the same way.

No idea about the load questions. Sorry!

I've got a few of the sonoff ones.

About £7-8.

Run off wifi. Controllable through Google, alexa, and it's own app. Easy to set up.

Another vote for these - especially as I got 3 for £24 in an Argos promotion.
