What to buy, am I boring?

My last two have been 335d M Sport Tourings, F31, 2015 and 2017's - what do I go to next, on the basis that I probably can't afford a 340d? It needs to have a towbar for trailers and a bike rack (and be of a "decent" weight), be relatively economical (35 mpg plus), be totally reliable fuss and free, and go like hell when needed to.

Audis are a bit bling for me, and Mercs a bit placcy.......IMHO of course.

Any help please, very gratefully received.

Hi, thanks for that; if it's a serious suggestion, then I haven't put myself across very well; or I have a very "wrong" idea about what a GS 450h is like. Our other is an NX300h, and whilst it is smooth and refined, gutsy and fast it is not!

And obviously I need an estate too; I'd go as far as to say that a 335d would totally bury a GS 450h, it wouldn't even see which it had gone.

And I like to have X Drive for the odd muddy field with a trailer on.

I had a new shape 330e Beemer for a couple of days; whilst it went well, it was worse on economy than mine, which can average over 40 mpg when calculated honestly, although that has rather slipped since lockdown ;-)

I really need a proper all rounder, which is what I have now.

The gs is 340bhp where as your nx is 200bhp, plus the gs is no doubt lighter and alot more aerodynamic.

You wont get any petrol car remotely as fast as your 335d that does 35mpg.

And you dont state a budget

No, no estate, that wasnt in your original brief. In that case, i suggest another 335d

Sorry, I thought the clue was that I run "Tourings" (or pregnant locusts as my partner calls them)! I ride mountain bikes, so I've always got a lot of clobber on board.

Unless you can remove your mpg requirement the answer is only really "335d"

Oh and I do 25k miles pa so it's got to be new, or nearly new

I was in a similar situation, although less mileage, and after years of F30 and F31 ownership I wanted a change... I ended up going for a 2018 340i touring.... To me the BMW represented the best bang for buck, and despite the fact I really wanted something different, the B58 lump was enough to keep me faithful.

I’m hoping we get some tasty EV estates in the next few years but it’s not looking promising...

I think the correct answer is probably to keep the 335d until the 340d comes into budget.

We've had a few 335ds and they're hard to beat as an overall package. Although, I did spend a weekend driving a new 530d which really impressed me. Still felt quick enough but a few steps on in terms of comfort and interior.

Thanks; yes, I think that may very well be the answer; the 335d will have about 80k on it by the end of the contract, in November, but it still drives like new.
