Buying a car from Europe
Discussion
Hello,
I'm considering an older American car in Europe. What I'd like to do is fly over, purchase and drive it home then sort out all the registration etc. Is this possible?
My research so far shows you can get temporary insurance and number plates from a European post office so the first leg shouldn't be an issue. What I'm unsure of is the logistics once I get back into the UK.
Things I know:
being an older car, no import tax to worry about (for now) if from within the EU
Registration here should also be easier as only a fog light and mot required (over 25 years old)
Things I don't know:
Can I as a UK resident drive a car on euro plates into the UK? And what would be the logistics of this? (insurance etc)
Any other pointers are appreciated as I'm sure there are things I've not considered.
Cheers
