Buying a 997 GTS
Discussion
I'm close to buying a 997 GTS PDK.
Nicely spec'ed car and I'd be getting it for £42500. Only problem is that is has 60K miles. The mileage doesn't put me off but I'm just a bit worried when it comes to resale as I've never sold a 'higher' mileage Porsche before and going by the classifieds its the higher mileage cars that tend to stick around.
Anyone had any experience of selling higher mileage examples? Am I better off paying a bit more for a lower mileage example? If anyone has a nice example they are thinking of selling please feel free to message me!

miles are only one of the worry come sale, and it will upset some, but PDK 997 GTS are really poor hard to shift cars.Nicely spec'ed car and I'd be getting it for £42500. On the upside £42k looks a great price :-)
on the 2nd down side Porkers are very hard to shift above 60k miles, it seems a massive sticking mileage point that hence the £42k price you see now, vs manual low mile GTS at £70k !!!
but buy cheap sell cheap, is what it is. every thing sells at a price no matter what gear box or miles.
AT least with a PDK GTS there are a lot for sale so you can see the price spread and make a choice if it's right for you.
If it were me I’d be buying lower miles, I’ve tried before to make something fit a certain criteria and just got shut because because it’s never been quite right, If you have more funds then spend more,
For me the PDK in the 997.2 is shocking, Some absolutely love it to bits, but there’s a reason why in certain models people want to be buying a manual. As said above buy cheap sell cheap, if you’re wanting something that’s gong to need to feel special then unfortunately it’s got a price.

I think shocking is harsh about the 997.2’s PDK but I think this is the biggest weak spot of the car. When it came out it was obviously cutting edge but it’s now two generations old and people will be driving daily drivers with gearboxes as good if not better. The PDK gearbox and the PCM are the two things that are really starting to date on these cars. PCM is relatively easily sold with a Bluetooth link and a phone holder. That said £42k is a good price I think. I think the GTS is a great looking car (I am biased) but one passed me on the motorway today and I think it still looks fantastic.
This would be a better buy for you, although could be more like £60k once the auction closes:

• PDK (Option code 250), this 7 speed dual clutch box offers gears 1-6 in close ratio and the 7th gear in a long ratio.
• Sport Chrono Package Plus (Option code 640) in conjunction with PDK provides the driver access to a number of special functions not available on the standard GTS. On this car Comfort, Sport and also Sport plus can be selected. The car adapts throttle response, damper settings and a harder rev limit across the three settings. This allows the car to open up and perform to its full potential. It also provides 2 special functions 1) Launch Control and 2) Motorsport derived gearshift strategy. SCP+ provides memory function of personal settings such as air con etc. This with PDK is essential option on the GTS for many.
Don’t think that’s right....I don’t think there’s a Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus option. There’s simply “Normal” and “Sport”...at least that’s what my manual 997 GTS has and I’ve never read anywhere about PDK’s having three modes in the 997. It does on the 991 though. It’s also missed out that the traction control allows the car to be a little more playful in Sport...think it allows 8 deg more slip angle before the electronics kick in.
That’s why I said “for me” ?
As I said there are those that love it, I’m not in that In that consensus and if I wanted to be in the wrong gear most of the time I’d get some one else to drive. I know how the PDK works and that it can can change in milliseconds, but I find the selection takes longer than that and always wants To hunt for a higher gear, that I don’t want to be in, selecting a gear I don’t want for the corner I’m in let alone the corner I’m yet to get in to.
I’m sorry but I just find it archaic and very numb, my dad had a 50th at the same time we had a GTS and his was only marginally better if at all ? I don’t disagree with Lewis Hamilton’s ability to drive a car with an X Box controller for a steering wheel, but I’m not Lewis Hamilton and I don’t race cars for a living.
We sold the GTS for a number of reasons, I bought a C4S gen.1 manual which I prefer and the wife bought a Biturbo Tiguan DSG, Which is a belter of a car.

997 GTS PDK Mode are Normal, Sport and Sports Plus. Sport Plus came as part of the Sports Chrono Package, which also gave Launch Control
I know, because my 997 GTS PDK had those options.
Confirm there is ; default , sport and sport plus.
Gear-lever will set manual ( lever and/or paddles) , or full auto. Each of the three modes has a completely different character with sport plus uncompromising at maximum performance.
Firm dampers selectable in all modes . Standard default “off” , “on” with sport /sport plus but can be switched off while in those modes.

• PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management, which provides Comfort and sport mode adaptive damping setup).
• PSM (Porsche Stability Management
• Variocam Plus
• Sports Exhaust (switchable via a button on the interior console). The tailpipes are black finished on the outside but are Nano coated and polished on the inside.
• The rear panel between the pipes is also finished in black.
• Dynamic accentuated cooling air intakes in front apron and additional spoiler lip with black finish.
• Black side skirts.
• 19” Black RS Spyder center locking wheels, which were only available on the 911 turbo until this car.
• 3 Spoke ‘Sport Design’ steering wheel, exclusive to the GTS. Alcantara wrapped in conjunction with, handbrake and gear lever and seat centers on this GTS.
• PCM (Porsche Communication Management)
• Cross drilled and vented, Red 4 Piston aluminum monobloc fixed caliper brakes. 330mm front and rear.
As mentioned in my initial post the key to getting the three drive modes was selecting option Sport Chrono PLUS. That’s what got all the Motorsport derived functionality. I often say even now sport chrono isn’t just that little click on the dash. Porsche Sport chrono is way more than a clock.
Fwiw I lived the PDK on my gts 997.2 with the SC+ it was devilish in full tilt and easy in comfort mode.

You forgot the wide body and the alcantara interior (unless the original owner was daft enough to delete it) • PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management, which provides Comfort and sport mode adaptive damping setup).

That seems like a good price to me.
Whoever said the 997 GTS PDK is not great/unwanted/hard to sell is smoking something, these are sought after and at the right price (like this) and sell fine. Sure manual is more sought after but at a high price premium.
Smoking a truth serum, because they don’t sell very well at all, and loads for sale and been for sale ages.Whoever said the 997 GTS PDK is not great/unwanted/hard to sell is smoking something, these are sought after and at the right price (like this) and sell fine. Find me a manual, with GTS interior for sale, or even one in the last 2 years which has been for sale, none about.
Some ones even just put a manual GTS on at £72k lol !!!
Now find me a PDK car, 18 to choose from Atm, it’s a total mismatch for the car, totally ruins it, hence no one wants to buy them and why there is a £20k price gap from manual to PDK.
I may search out a slightly lower mileage example if I can find one at a decent price.
I have actually owned a manual 997 GTS many years ago. I've never driven the PDK version. The example on collecting cars looks nice but it has pretty much no options. I'd be quite happy to have another manual but not at over £60K. Realised I just prefer 997's to the modern cars.
