I'm having a hard time locating and engine for my 07 db9. Any ideas?

Have you tried talking to Mike at Bamford Rose?

Here's one from McGurk's ...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/FULLY-RECONDITIONED-Aston...

The price is right if they put their name behind it. I put $10K US in parts and reconditioning to put mine back together (over on 6speed you can see it)

It would be worth talking to them and see the build pictures and parts list. I've yet to find an engine builder that doesn't take lots of photos to show the prospective buyer.

As always, YMMV & Good luck!

£12.5k PLUS VAT - ouch.

Having bought some parts recently on eBay, I notice there are quite a few DB9s being scrapped, many in Poland for some reason...

It may be worth checking to see if you can buy an engine from a scrapped car (all the obvious cautions here!) rather than putting “new wine into old skins”.

Can I ask what went wrong with your engine?

Yes I agree but they have been extremely hard to find. Basically the motor began to make a funny rattling noise and the catalytic converter was glowing red. We changed coil packs and plugs. Went for a test drive and it got louder . Once I parked it all the antifreeze ran out the bottom. Also my mechanic noticed that one of the spark plugs was damaged at the bottom when he removed it.

May have nothing to do with your circumstances, but primary cat ingestion has been talked about on here. There is a Bamford Rose YouTube video explaining the situation.

Possibly wise for every V12 owner to have their primary cats removed and the associated actions applied, so that this potentially disasterous engine damage can be eliminated.

Here’s the link. Excellent explanation by Mike. Just watched it, making me nervous now and have just messaged my AM independent to get a primary-car removal quote

Anyone got any idea of the rate/percentage of this failure or the cost to remove the primary cats?

Wow thanks....that was extremely helpful. It sounds like that was my issue but I'm past prevention at this point. I believe the damage has been done. Scary think is like bram said...you cant see it coming!!! At this point I believe engine needs to be replaced. Looking for something with low miles used of course.

Given how delicate these engines are, the last thing I would do is stick a used motor of unknown/dubious pedigree into my car... If someone gave me a used motor, I might be tempted to tear it down and inspect/rebuild given the ready availability of the internals because most are from Ford.

Makes sense. I'm considering the one from McGurk. Do you have a link to compatible ford parts?

Now, there is one Aston Martin dealership in Poland, in Warsaw. So I doubt there is a plentiful local supply. Equally, I doubt there's any reason why a UK supplied car would make it's way to Poland to be scrapped.

I wonder if the DB9 engine in Poland would have the engine number? Or perhaps it's that radical lightweighting option where the engine number and VIN get filed off...

Great question. I'll definitely look into it. Ths cat converter issue seems to be a sneaky common problem for the v12. I'd rather order a new one

Have many DB9's been stolen?

I found that a good start was a 2005 Ford Escape Duratec 3.0L and then order 2X... My build thread has most of the parts called out: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/aston-martin/4...

As I'm alluding to above, I suggest the OP or anyone interested carries out their own due diligence. Google is your friend!
