Morning,

I’ve been a long time Porsche fan and was lucky enough to own a few Boxsters in my 20’s when they first came out. I had the original 2.5, then the 2.7, 3.2 and then 3.4... all silver apart from the 3.4 which was black.

All great cars and the 911 was the logical next step, however, after dealing with Porsche servicing one time too many I went down the Ferrari route and more recently Mclaren and Aston - after experiencing both of them, all is forgiven Porsche smile

In my teens I had a number of car posters on my bedroom wall, with my favourite being the 993 Turbo...

A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to successfully bid on one which came up on Collecting Cars - it was a bit of a risk buying unseen however all I can say is that the car looks even better in the flesh than in the photos, a real credit to those that owned it before.

The car drives amazing and the way it puts the power down is addictive, much more fun than the Mclaren.

I haven’t quite got used to using the clutch again and I’m sure people are wondering why the tosser in the Porsche keeps doing wheel spins... smile

The 993 won’t be a daily but I’ll use it semi-regularly at weekends.

The only thing I don’t like about the car is the blue leather interior... I’m planning to swap this out to black and also update the stereo to Porsche’s new classic stereo.

I’ve been speaking to one company that does restorations of Porsche but they’ve required constant chasing, not a great sign during the sales stage.

I’m looking for the collective wisdom of PH’ers...

What updates/modifications would you make to the car and who would you use?

I’ve attached some pics below :

Thanks all - very pleased to be back in the Porsche club.

I’d park it in a drive in the Fair City.

Either that or just drive and enjoy it and then see what you think it needs to bring it to where you want it to be.
I think you’ll get used to the metropole blue.
Is the gear knob worn away or is it just lighting in the photo?

smile You are all heart smile

I’m not sure I could ever get used to Metropole blue... it does look better than I thought but it does need to change!

Not sure about the gear knob - will check today.

Perhaps practical things like lights?
Tech has moved on so better illumination might be a good option?
Assume you don’t want to move too far from the analogue feel it provides.
Detail to make it pop?

Then leave it in the Fair City.....clap

Also quite like Metropole Blue with Silver - can’t imagine what it would cost to change properlyeek

However, if I was doing it, I would not go ‘coal pit black’, I would go for a ‘911R look’ in something like Espresso, perhaps with houndstooth seat centres.
Done properly it would really lift the interior and may even add some value - but won’t be cheap

I’d leave the interior colour as is.
Authenticity rules.
Great cars I miss the one I had.

Meeten - Good shout on the lights, not driven it in the dark yet but believe the current lights are as good as a candle smile I liked the look of the project gold lights, made them stand out.

Thanks everyone else.

I’m not worrying too much about keeping it original or in maintaining/increasing the value - it’s going to be a very long term keeper and want to get it looking perfect (to me).

The brown and the houndstooth looks great - for some reason I’ve always thought the different seat centres look better on 964 cars, I’d have to go tartan (being from gods country) if I was going to go down that route. smile

Welcome back.

As above, don't do anything to it, other than... hehe

1. Lights. I have Tore's HID kit for the main beam, which are very good, but then I bought some new projectors, clever ones from a company in the states called Morimoto. Why clever? Because there is a solenoid version which moves the metal cut-off out of the way when you put on full beam. Therefore your full beam bulbs etc are superfluous, as main beam takes over that job.

It's one of those aftermarket things that totally exceeded my expectations. On full beam, birds drop out of the sky ahead of me, Hedges catch fire.. and so on.

2. Suspension. which? DYOR. ETA get Centre Gravity to fit it for you, whatever you choose. Nobody else will do as good a job on the 993.

Tartan? There's no tartan in Lancashire?

Deep dark red interior looks good in silver 993s, and isn't as gloomy in the cabin as black.

Easy, book it in to southbound for their February availability.

In the meantime stop being a wuss, these are cars for driving. Get out and drive the fkr.

I can see why you might want to change the interior. Personally I would go with something that’s close to OEM Porsche of some era rather than going totally off piste !

Thanks all.

Appreciate that keeping it as it came is probably ‘the right’ thing to do, however, whilst the blue is better than I thought it would be... I can’t see myself keeping it.

A good point was made about keeping it as close to oem as possible - im going to fight my inner chav and not raid the Halfords parts bin, I do want something that could have come out of Porsche...

I particularly like the project gold car from a couple of years ago, I even considered spraying a 993 gold (I know..).... I do like it’s interior and thinking about something like the below but with silver contrast instead of gold. What do you think?

Are Southbound really that busy?? I did see some of their work on 911UK and it did look good.

Southbound have had an excellent reputation for umpteen years, and can replicate the full Porsche OE look, which isn't true of all trimmers. Probably not the cheapest, but probably the best.
I'm surprised that they have availability as soon as February, but definitely worth popping down to see them.

Also a fan of ex-factory originality, but must concede that the espresso 991R interior would work with the 993T and could look very classy.

They work more on classics (especially Ferrari’s) but O’Rourke do unbelievable work....I’ve seen a couple of cars they’ve done the work is first class.

The roof lining they put on this F12. https://www.coachtrimmers.com/blog/2019/12/5/ferra... and the interior on this Lancia Aurelia Outlaw https://www.coachtrimmers.com/lancia-outlaw-4 show what they are capable of when you ask them to do a bespoke interior.

Thanks Cheib - that is some serious craftsmanship at play.

I’ve added them to the list - contacting Southbound first (thanks for the suggestion) will let you all know what they come back with.
