I have a very good mate who is about to buy his first ever Porsche.
It will be PDK either way. He wants to fit apple car play.
What would you guys recommend and why as I have very little real word experience of the two models.
I have driven a 997 GTS a few times but never a 991 of any sort

997 GTS is a classic… same running gear as the Sports classic. Had some really special bits on it…powerkit x51 engine, first use of Center lock on non-GT car, side skirts from 997 GT2 RS. Perfect size. I had one. My first Porsche also.

But the 991.1 is better in every way apart from the steering and it’s size as 991 got bigger.
Engine is brilliant.
Gen2 PDK is worlds apart...Brand new chassis and dynamics.
No CarPlay as it’s still PCM 3 in the 991.1

I bought a 991.1 GTS to replace my golf, bar the engine I did not like anything about it.
Sold it after 2 months.

I still have my Golf it’s that good.

I don’t do normal cars it seems even GTS models.
The x51 engine though is mega.

Very subjective, as with all things Porsche.

The 991.1 engine is a peach, but they’re different cars and different generations, in terms of development, as well as pure age. I’d suggest he try both and make an informed call from his perspective as to which feels better to him.

After months of searching, my OPC managed to find a 997GTS. For me the 997 is probably the best looking 911 made. All subjective of course.

Placed a deposit on the phone, went to test drive and was disappointed. I felt the engine was lazy and PDK was dated.

OPC kindly returned my deposit and 24 hours later I placed a deposit on a 991.1 GTS at the same OPC. I still have this car 4 years later. Longest I have ever kept a car.

Epas isn’t the best but the engine is a masterpiece. The howl at top end is mesmerising as it needs revved out.

Sure I would love a GT3 but need rear seats and can’t justify the jump in money (in my head). For the money these are at other than a GT4 I can’t see what else there is out there.
