Wireless headset, budget around £200
Discussion
I have been looking around and I am struggling under a sea of video's and reviews so i thought i should ask here.
I want a pair of good headphones with a decent mic, with the option of running them either wireless or plugged in. They will be primarily for games and films so decent surround sound is important.
Portability is not an issue, i am only interested in comfort and sound quality over all ranges, They need to be able to produce nice bass.
Any suggestions from people that have something that i should consider?

Steelseries Arctis 7 wireless for the PC.
Sennheiser momentum 2 or 3 for music on the go.
Sennheiser RS 175 for home cinema/TV
Btw... if you’re at all serious about a reliable audio experience in gaming you’ll be disabling all headset surround features.

why would you not want surround sound for gaming though? You need to hear where the person is that is shooting at you!
I play tactical shooters like Escape from Tarkov and previously PUBG where, as you say, correctly positioning sound is vital... (im also a bit of an audio geek)
Leave it to the games designers to configure the appropriate sound and forget crappy third party attempts to provide ‘3D’ sound, it’s marketing gimmickry at best and at worst destroys the hard work the devs put into the audio design.
Professional gamers, or those that play seriously do not use those features I assure you.

Ok, the lovely people at Amazon just delivered a set of Acrtis 7's.
I am messing around with them, they have nice sound quality..but I would like a bit more volume and i have tweaked them with the steel series engine software.
Is there any way to improve the situation, or do i just have to live the fact that i am a little deaf?

I've got these and whilst I thought they were superb for gaming, I thought for music they were really bad.Until I read this thread.
Trust me - follow the instructions to install the APO Equalizer and Peace Equalizer UI. Use these settings. Completely transforms the experience.
I must be some kind of audio philistine or something..
I have installed both those things and chucked all the sliders around and emulated the settings suggested. I can't detect much of a change in anything.
When i change the presets in the steelsteries software i can hear the different settings kicking in but on that equaliser APO thing, the sliders really don't seem to affect what i am hearing!
The headphones sound great, don't get me wrong!
I think they sound good with music AND with games, so really i don't need to be messing with equalisers.
I just thought they might be louder...
There should always be a setting that is too loud, and i cant find it
This headset is replacing a £15 china special with loads of Blue LEDs and really all i am noticing is crisper bass, and they are more comfortable and wireless.
Not sure that is worth £140 extra, but welcome to the world of silly audio stuff i guess

Like i said; the volume modulation far exceeds what your ears can take, you have a setting wrong.
Also, the sliders on Peace drastically effect the sound output, so you don’t have that working correctly either.
There is a ‘decibel’ slider on Peace which gives massive modulation to volume - but if you haven’t got the software functioning then it’s not going do much!

I seem to remember that I had an issue with Peace not having any effect and I had to change a setting to run something in another mode. Here you go .
For the volume, maybe your mixer slider (on the right) isn't in the middle?

The volume slider on Peace is working, so i guess that means the rest of it should be..I know i am not THAT deaf as i can detect the adjustments on the Steel software, so as you say there must be something else wrong. Also, the sliders on Peace drastically effect the sound output, so you don’t have that working correctly either.

Settings wise though, they actually sound fine so I am not bothered about that.

Thanks, I have now been through all that and messed around and the equaliser is still not doing anything ..I am bored now so i have uninstalled all that stuff For the volume, maybe your mixer slider (on the right) isn't in the middle?

I've recently purchased the Sony wh-1000xm3 headphones, which work via bluetooth or jack. Seem absolutely fantastic to my ears, sound quality of music via Amazon HD seems a vast improvement over my 50 quid previous cheapo bluetooth headphones. Battery lasts a while, noise cancelling great, overall very happy. You should be able to find them just under your budget now. I use them from music and conference calls, never had any complaints over the mic.

Bluetooth is very poor compared to a proper RF headphone such as the Arctis 7. Hopeless for competitive gaming.

Peace is not a requisite. The Arctis 7 is a fantastic gaming headset out of the box.
I suspect your volume issues lie in a basic Windows setting.
Look in ‘properties’ within the Sound Control Panel
I think maybe my idea of loud isn't normal as i seem to have EVERYTHING maxed. I am sure most people would never turn them up as loud as they currently are but they are nowhere near making my ears bleed I suspect your volume issues lie in a basic Windows setting.

Also, with my old headset I could just wear them round my neck and I didnt have to max them out to be able to hear in game chat, with game audio coming through my desktop speakers. I haven't used these for gaming yet but i can already tell I dont think i will be able to do that.
