Introduced at less than 24 hours notice....
Whats the f-ing point in having a GREEN list to alllow you to plan a holiday if they can change it when you are out there?
Insane.
Yeah, not ideal, but with cases spiking again in Spain, and also potentially in other countries previously considered relatively safe, some reactive changes perhaps would be expected. Global pandemic and what not.Whats the f-ing point in having a GREEN list to alllow you to plan a holiday if they can change it when you are out there?
Insane.
Understandably hugely inconvenient for anyone already on their holidays.

So as to react to the ever fluid situation, at the end of the day this illness kills people and the U.K. Has to react quickly.
Your chances of dying from covid are absolutely tiny. The economic damage and extra and hidden deaths are likely to kill many more though. What we need are more ways “to react to the ever fluid situation” but also keep the economy going WITH the virus now that the peak has passed.
Suddenly imposing blanket quarantines etc for entire countries at short notice isn’t the answer.

Zero sympathy.
Don’t see why people can’t just write off this year for foreign holidays. We have.

How can you expect notice of an unexpected thing ?
The situation is fluid and can change very quickly.
Anyone going on holiday in this current environment is certainly risking a lot of hassle.

Totally agree. I think some people are naive.Don’t see why people can’t just write off this year for foreign holidays. We have.
Our 2 weeks abroad we reduced to 1 week at home.
Being self employed I worked until lunchtime then we had afternoons going out.
It's simply the reality of the world we currently live in, but some feel they can revert back to pre covid in an instance.

What's the point in recognising the need for urgency when dealing the virus if people don't realise that they may well be affected, at very short notice ?Whats the f-ing point in having a GREEN list to alllow you to plan a holiday if they can change it when you are out there?
Insane.
I guess some folk may have had holidays booked for some considerable time.
They wouldn't be due a refund if the company is capable of getting them out there for their intended booking. So faced with losing all their money, take a chance on going.
This will kill the holiday companies and airlines again. No one of sane mind will book a last minute deal anywhere if there is a chance of getting nailed with 2 week isolation order at such short notice.

Taking your holiday in the UK would be of greater economic gain to the UK than spending your money in Spain or Portugal. What we need are more ways “to react to the ever fluid situation” but also keep the economy going WITH the virus now that the peak has passed.

I totally agree we need to learn to live with the virus as it will not disappear but will hopefully it mutates into something more benign or an effective vaccine is released and widely adopted but until then we only have these rather blunt instruments available to us in order to control contagion.
I do have a trip to Spa booked in September for a track day, I have kept two weeks holiday back in case I do have to quarantine on my return but as I have been working from home through out I will probably just continue with that.
Clearly another knee jerk reaction.
While clearly Spain needs to get Madrid and Catalonia under control, the U.K. government mandating a 14 day self isolation for those arriving from the sodding Canary Islands is past comical, it's just woeful.
It seems clear that the government have decided that "Spain" is an issue, which it is, but without considering the geography of Spanish territories.. The Canaries and Balearics are not only physically separate, but are many miles apart and also have low C19 rates. Both sets of islands rely heavily on tourism, which they ought to be entitled to at the moment given that the islands are under control, yet someone in Westminster couldn't be bothered to consider this, resulting in yet more financial hardship for Canary/Balearic locals, British holidaymakers and the airlines and travel companies that link the two.
It's like if there was an outbreak of C19 in Newcastle, now residents on the Isles of Scilly must quarantine themselves. Bonkers and totally out of touch with reality.

I don't know whether the restrictions are right or wrong but it's interesting how broad blanket the approach has been.
The comparison that leaps to mind is one I read last week where apparently if you arrive in Belgium (it may have been specific to Brussels I forget that part) there are rules that you should quarantine/isolate if you've come from Leicester but if you're from elsewhere in the UK you don't need to.

It’s interesting, I’ve noticed a few people who have spent the last 3 months whining that the government wasn’t reacting fast enough now whining that the are reacting too fast

The air bridges were never cast in stone, and it was made clear from the start that things can change just as the rate of infections change.
k business” strikes again?Anyone thinking it's Johnson destroying businesses for the sake of it needs to have their head forcibly wobbled.
You might want to hear what Jonathan Van-Tam (DCMO) had to say on the issue, as opposed to using Johnson as the usual suspect.
