So finally the day came on Friday when it was time to pickup my dream 997 Turbo from Perth OPC smile

The car was more money than I was orginally looking to pay, but once I looked at what was on offer its was a no brainer. The OPC were carrying out a Major service, its very low mileage (25k) , 2yr warranty and over and above the spec I could ever wish for. So my man maths told me all I'm doing is paying forward.

OPC Perth from start to end have been superb. As I'm 700+ miles away I was nervous buying the car blind, we all know the pitfalls and how much things can cost, so top marks for Ally/Hamish for ensuring they delivered the car they had promised. Also credit to previous owner for keeping his beauty in such good condition.

My son joined me on the fun and games getting a flight up to Edinburgh and then onto the OPC.

When we finally arrived around 5pm I could see a car under cover in the main showroom , the excitement hit me, when they pulled off the cover I felt like a giggly child, I had all these plans to check loads of things, but ended up more like Homer seeing his favourite food smile

The car was stunning, just like they'd promised, they had gone over and above in preperation with replacing the windscreen and tyres. Not to mention the goody bag !

Thankfully there was very little needed for me to get my cold sweaty hands on the keys and get the car and the road. (Apart from a quick peak and 'someones' Gentian Blue 992 Turbo S, wow, it was huge compared to mine)

I'd booked a hotel near Fort William , needless to say the roads up there were f**king stunning, you lucky lucky buggers who live up that neck of the woods. OMG !!!

I drove about 200 miles all around there and the car felt so much better than expected. Havent had that much fun since my 993 Turbo. I can definately understand the statements about how they get better the faster you go, everything seems to just tighten up more, but also when going slower you can still feel everything. The 'old' porsche steering is what I've been missing for so long. I love that taught almost torqued 'jiggy' feeling you get.

The noise makes me laugh, if you've never had a 911 I can imagine the 997 and older would worry some when you start them up, proper chorus of clattering, especially without an exhaust, but they smooth out to a classic tone you come to love.

On the way home over a few days we also drove through the Lake District, whilst not as stunning as further up North, the roads and scenery were still to die for.

800 odd miles later we're finally home, very very happy and definately bonded with the car.

I'm crap at remembering to take pictures, especially as I just wanted to keep driving, so here's a couple I think show why I'm chuffed as f**k Very Happy

Nice, i reckon the 997 is about the best shape. Small but modern, timeless and understated.

Thanks for all the kinds words. I'm still like a child with new toy. Thankfully all good still, feels so nice to drive, I know peeps bleep on about handling in comparison to GT cars but a well sorted Turbo is still a dream all rounder.

Darn.
I’m no more than 5 min away from Perth OPC.
I would have delivered it for you.... smile

Heard lots of good thing about Perth OPC. I was there at their opening event.

Enjoy the new car.

That looks great inside and out! Love the red accents in the interior.

I've never been a huge fan of those wheels but it still looks superb!!

What a nice wee read, a guy collects his dream car immediately heads for the hills to enjoy DRIVING it then received many words of encouragement
But you don’t like the wheels!!! great

Lovely car, remind me of the one owner 997tt I nearly bought 5 years back with only 11k miles on it.

Still regret that :-(

Looks beautiful !

I bought a black 997 (unfortunately not a Turbo) from Hamish at Porsche Perth in 2018.
Great bunch of people.

Enjoy the car.

The red stitching really lifts things. Don't know why more black on black 997 weren't specc'd with it.

I agree, the red stitching makes a massive difference, way more than I expected, with black everywhere, it makes the interior a much nicer place to be , everywhere I look there's a hint of it.

To be honest it was one of the key things that made me want the car. A lot of the 911's looks very similar, so always nice to have something unique.

From memory, glancing at the build it was around £1500 back in '08, so not cheap !

I should also say. Very difficult to find a manual 997.1 turbo that I'd buy. If looking i'd buy that in a flash.
