My LH headlight seems to be sitting a bit high in the aperture, such that there's a gap below the washer unit. Appreciate that there has to be some element of space for the washer to pop out, however, this looks a bit excessive, especially compared to the RH.

Also, whilst I was having a gander, I was wondering whether the headlights should have a seal of some sort around them, or does water just get in there anyway and drain down the sides/back ?

I'd have thought that the headlight should have the same even space to the aperture all the way round ?

There is a position waiting for you at Gaydon, Jonny. When can you start as Director of Vehicle Inspection? - wink

Hold in a minute, your standards are too high, none of the new cars would ever leave the factory.

Certainly you should try for an even gap all round.
I don't think there is a seal.
Be aware that the adjustment is sort of a PITA - best done with 4 hands...
(and you need a light adjustment afterwards)

Mine is similar to this, but I remember I thought too that something was weird when I first saw the car.

When I replaced the radiator on the car I had to move both the lights out, there is slight adjustment underneath, but it's a right pain to get to.

There are spacers and washers on the mounting bolts so you can remove or add to suit.

Thanks all - given that I am in the middle of finishing off the rear end refurb, front end refurb, installing a magnetic charger and still have a couple of small interior scuffs to do, I think I'll put this on the "non urgent" list !

It will of course eat away at my OCD, so expect an update at some point.

Both mine were to low. I managed to lift up the front about 5mm. It is a stretch to reach the front adjuster with the arch liner out. But doable. I need to fine tune the drivers side beam with the internal adjustment before mot..not driven in dark since doing though.

Got around to doing this this evening. Had only nipped out to replace the boot struts and a door strut, so whilst I had the wheel arch liner out I thought I’d have a fiddle.

It’s actually pretty simple to do. There are 2 x Torx bolts at the rear of the light and a large very thin but towards the front, accessible over the air box.

I dropped the air box a tad to give me access and the used a plumbers wrench to get a grip on the nut. I was then able to turn it, which in turn turns a very coarse threaded screw arrangement and lowers or raises the headlight up or down at the front.

Took me an hour of fiddling, but reckon I could do it in 10 mins with the liner out now I know what I’m doing.
