I'm struggling to properly connect this to the battery terminals. I thought it would be easy but not helped by the fact that one terminal is partially hidden inside the front wing and the other is obstructed by the airbox and the pipework.

Do I have to slide the battery right out?

Any suggestions/guidance/workarounds would be very much appreciated (I am a bit of a technical novice).

Yes, to access the negative you need to pull the battery out a little, it will likely be held in with a bracket.

It’s a bit bizarre, because when the scuttle panel is on, only the positive is accessible - so I assume for a jump start you just earth on the engine somewhere.

Mine is connected in the boot.
The negative is screwed to the main boot earth (right hand side upper attachment for fuel tank) and the positive is connected (via a crimped spade connector) into a positive slot for an unused relay on the fuse board.

Keep meaning to attach the CTEK battery charger extension attachment via the void behind the fuel tank (right side) and out through the drain hole in the bottom - my car spends all winter up on a lift.

There is a thread on this from last year.

I'm not sure on your circumstances, but I connect mine through the cigarette lighter socket - it's permanently live. You just need the correct adaptor.

It may not be possible for you, but if you can, it's a simple solution!!!

Obviously check the socket is wired permanently live as TVR wiring isn't exactly consistent!!

Cheers

A previous owner had an accumate plug wired to the positive terminal and the negative was attached to the airbox bracket for earth. Looked ugly though.

Either way, I removed it as I have ctek which I wired up the exact same way as Imran999

I used to do that until fairly recently when my cigarette lighter socket decided to pack up.

Maybe worth getting a new one (beware the cheap Chinese versions that screw everything up that we saw not that long ago!!) and getting that fitted.

The downside is that you have to fit the lead through the door but the upside is that you won't try to drive off with it connected!!

Also, having a power source in the car to run other equipment is always good! driving

Let us know how you get on.

Come to think of it my clock stopped working at about the same time as the cigarette lighter, just a coincidence or could it be fuse etc?
