Hi, just about to take the front bumper off my 2010 987.2 and clean out the rads.
While I have it off I was going to have a go at fitting mesh over the intake grills.
I know that there are tailored solutions, but I enjoy a bit of DIY and have ordered some mesh to cut to fit.
Anyone else done this and have any tips for the job.
Is it better fitted inside or outside of the cross members that are currently fitted across the intake opening?
I have no warranty to worry about so not bothered about doing something that would invalidate it.

You don't say if your 987.2 is a Boxstet or a Cayman. If the latter, I have some ready made grills that I could let you have.
I prefer the Zunsport that sits forward of the spars as there is less chance is debris falling to the roads. The grilles that sit behind tend to have gaps where leaf mulch, etc can get through.

Thanks for the offer, but mine is the Boxster variant and I fancy a bit of DIY. Just looked at the thread for the self build and I am now convinced that I can make something that will not look naff and will keep the radiators clear of leaves. I will probably go in front of the slats since mine are painted white and the grill I have ordered is black so the aesthetics might look a bit odd with the slats in front.
Thanks for the prompt responses. I will post some pics of mine when finished and see if taking the bumper off makes it easier to get the grill fixings hidden, although the black cable ties did give me food for thought.
Hi just finished.
Not a massive job. Once you’ve got the car on jack stands, removed the wheels and headlights it’s all done with a battery screw driver, a couple of torx bits and a hook to get some clips out. Loads of vids on YouTube to show you how.
As it was I needn’t have bothered about the rads, little bit of mess, but not loads. Pressure washed it all anyway and gave all the panels a good clean.
I put the grill behind the fins and held it in with a few hidden tie wraps. I am pleased. For £15 I feel it’s money well spent. It’s taken me a long morning to finish and that includes all the washing of the panels and cutting the mesh out.
A suitable job for anyone with hands and eyes.
